Sri Lanka is currently on a tour of Ireland for a limited-overs series, which commenced on August 11th with the 1st and two T20Is and in its ongoing ODI-leg, hosts Ireland secured a thrilling three-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the ODI opener, successfully chasing a target of 261. The hosts elected to field first, but the Lankan side ended up posting a formidable total of 260. Ireland chased down the target of 261, courtesy of Orla Prendergast’s century. It was Ireland’s first victory in the ongoing ICC Women’s ODI (WODIs) Championship. They won the match by three wickets with four balls to spare.

Highlights of the match:

Orla Prendergast 3/25 & 122* (Ireland):

Orla Prendergast delivered a stunning performance with both bat and ball to help her team secure a record-breaking win over the Islanders. She provided a flying start for her side by dismissing Chamari Athapaththu for a golden duck in the first over. Later in the innings, she took the wickets of Anushka Sanjeewani and Sugandika Kumari, finishing with figures of 3/25, her best in WODIs. With the bat, the Irish all-rounder came in at 69 for 2 and scored an unbeaten 122 off 107 balls, guiding her side to victory. For her all-round performance, she was awarded the Player of the Match.

Vishmi Gunaratne 101 (Sri Lanka):

Vishmi Gunaratne’s maiden ODI century helped the visitors post a total of 260. Sri Lanka lost their in-form batters, Chamari Athapaththu and Harshitha Samarawickrama, within the first ten overs. Gunaratne’s 122-run partnership with Hasini Perera helped the Lankan side recover. She smashed 101 off 98 balls, including nine boundaries and three sixes, becoming only the third player to score a century for Sri Lanka across formats.

Kavisha Dilhari 4/54 (Sri Lanka):

Though Kavisha Dilhari couldn’t contribute much with the bat, as she was dismissed for 16, the Lankan spinner scalped four wickets with the ball. Her first wicket was Amy Hunter, whom she dismissed for 42, followed by Leah Paul for 7. In the 44th over, Dilhari struck twice, first dismissing Arlene Kelly and then Alice Tector two balls later. Despite the loss, she finished with impressive figures of 4/54.

Arlene Kelly 2/42 (Ireland):

The Irish all-rounder delivered an impressive performance after a rough outing in the two T20Is. With the ball, she took two wickets, first dismissing the Lankan centurion Vishmi Gunaratne for 101, breaking the 122-run stand for the third wicket, and later dismissing Nilakshi Silva for 13. She finished with figures of 2/42 and later contributed 12 runs with the bat.
