Harmanpreet Kaur-led India is currently hosting Laura Wolvaardt’s South Africa for a multi-format series. India has already secured a 3-0 victory in the three-match ODI series held in Bengaluru. The series now progresses to the ongoing one-off four-day red-ball Test match at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, where India displayed dominance on Day 1 by scoring 525 runs, marking the highest-ever total by a team on Day 1 of a Test match.

Opting to bat after winning the toss, India Women scored 525/4 in 98 overs. Shafali Verma achieved a milestone by recording the fastest double century in women’s Test cricket, reaching 200 in just 194 balls. She finished her innings with an impressive 205 off 197 balls. Smriti Mandhana also made a significant contribution with 149 runs, her highest-ever individual score across all formats. Jemimah Rodrigues added 55 runs, while skipper Harmanpreet Kaur remained unbeaten on 42 alongside Richa Ghosh, who scored 43 not out. South Africa’s bowlers struggled to make breakthroughs, with Delmi Tucker being the most successful, taking 2 wickets for 141 runs in 26 overs.
