Harmanpreet Kaur, the skipper of the Indian women’s cricket team, has crossed the mark of 7000 international runs. She achieved this milestone in her 270th innings, becoming the seventh women cricketer to do so.
The aggressive batter scored a total of 155 runs in the recently concluded three-match ODI series, including her quickfire century in the second ODI, for which she was awarded the Player of the Match. Unfortunately, she couldn’t finish the match when India were chasing 216, as she got run out for 42, but India won comfortably, clinching the series 3-0 and handing the Proteas a whitewash.
Harmanpreet is also the third Indian batter, after Mithali Raj and Smriti Mandhana, to score more than 7000 international runs. She made her debut against England for India in a T20I format and has been a cornerstone of the Indian team’s batting lineup across formats.
Mithali Raj, the legendary Indian cricketer, was the first among the listed players to achieve this milestone, setting a high standard for her compatriots when she completed this feat in her 213th match in March 2021. Charlotte Edwards was the second in the list, achieving it for England in 2014 during a match against England. The former Australian captain was the third to achieve it in 2020, followed by the current Windies cricketer and World Cup-winning captain, Stafanie Taylor, and the Australian all-rounder Ellyse Perry, who did it in 2022.
Recently, Smriti Mandhana crossed the 7000-run landmark in the first ODI, scoring 117. Looking ahead, Harmanpreet Kaur’s focus will be on continuing to contribute to the success of the Indian team as they prepare for upcoming tournaments, including the T20 World Cup in Bangladesh in October, followed by the ODI World Cup in India less than a year later, with India hosting the tournament.
