The New Zealand Women’s tour of the England 2021 series commenced on September 1st with the T20I played at the County Ground in Chelmsford.
The match began with the toss in favor of the New Zealand side which elected to field first. An excellent performance was displayed by English opener Tammy Beaumont in the first inning who contributed with the highest score of 97 Runs. She received decent support from Amy Jones and Danielle Wyatt in the middle. The English side set up a good target of 184 runs for the New Zealand women to chase. Hayley Jensen picked 2 wickets while Leigh Kasperek and Amy Satterthwaite picked a wicket each. There was some sloppy fielding at the display from New Zealand, which resulted in extra chances for the English batters at crucial junctures of the match.
In the second inning, New Zealand’s openers failed to put partnerships. Satterthwaite tried to hold the innings at one end, tried to reach a half-century but was eliminated at 43. None of the remaining batters could cross even a 20-run individual score mark.
The New Zealand side could only reach a total of 138 runs giving the English team their first victory and a head start in the series.
