Following India’s 59-run win in the series opener, New Zealand bounced back with a clinical performance in the 2nd ODI. Winning the toss and opting to bat first, openers Suzie Bates (58) and Georgia Plimmer (41) gave the team a brilliant start, stitching together an 87-run stand. However, from 87/1 to 139/4, New Zealand faltered, losing wickets in quick succession. Skipper Sophie Devine (79) and Maddy Green (42) then rebuilt the innings with a composed 82-run stand. Handy contributions from the lower middle order pushed New Zealand’s total to 259/9. For India, Radha Yadav starred with figures of 4/69 (10) and displayed a catching masterclass, while Deepti Sharma took two wickets.

In reply, India had the worst possible start, losing their top order within the first 5 overs. Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur briefly stabilized the innings, managing only a 38-run partnership. Soon after Jemimah fell for 17, Harmanpreet was dismissed for 24. Things went from bad to worse as Tejal Hasabnis (15), Deepti Sharma (15), and Arundhati Reddy (2) departed cheaply, reducing India to 108/8. Saima Thakor and Radha Yadav showed great resilience, putting up a record 70-run stand before being dismissed for 29 and 48, respectively, as India was bowled out for 183, handing New Zealand a comfortable 76-run win. Sophie Devine and Lea Tahuhu claimed three wickets each, while Jess Kerr and Eden Carson picked up two apiece for New Zealand.
