The New Zealand Women’s team is currently on a tour of England for 3 ODIs, followed by 5 T20Is. England has already secured the ODI series with a 3-0 whitewash against New Zealand, and in the ongoing T20 series, they are leading 2-0. England in the second T20 international match of the series, registered a win of 23 runs (DLS method) against New Zealand.
In the second match of the T20I series, New Zealand Women’s skipper Sophie Devine won the toss and elected to field first, anticipating rain interruption. As expected, the match was reduced to 9 overs due to heavy rain. Maia Bouchier and Danni Wyatt opened the innings for England. Wyatt was dismissed early without scoring in Hannah Rowe’s over. Despite this early loss, Bouchier and Capsey partnered well and stabilized the innings, scoring 23 and 28 runs respectively. However, Lea Tahuhu took the important wicket of Bouchier, followed by Kasperek then dismissed Capsey to break their patnership. Nat Sciver-Brunt and England captain Heather Knight came to bat next, contributing 11 and 15 runs respectively before getting out. Tahuhu struck again, dismissing Brunt for 11 runs. Amelia Kerr then caught and bowled Knight for 15 runs. On the last ball of the innings, Ecclestone finished with a maximum, and England Women ended on 89/6 in 9 overs. In response, New Zealand failed to build significant partnerships, and faced setbacks, New Zealand’s aggressive opening pair, Suzie Bates and Sophie Devine, took to the crease. Despite their experience, Bates only managed 4 runs off 6 balls before being dismissed by Charlie Dean. Amelia Kerr was out for 1 run, caught by Nat Sciver-Brunt. Devine also failed to make an impact, returning to the pavilion after scoring 9 runs in Lauren Bell’s over. Halliday attempted to stabilize the New Zealand innings but was dismissed for 14 runs by Dean. The match was again interrupted by rain, and England Women won by 23 runs via the DLS method.
