Ireland finally register their first win at the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup in their Group C match at Potchefstroom. Winning the toss, Ireland decided to bat first.
Batting first, Ireland scored 156/5 but were off to a tricky start losing Siuin Woods for a two-ball duck in the very first over and with Annabel Squires also getting dismissed for 3, Ireland had it tough but Rebecca Gough scored a quickfire 27 off 17. Georgia Dempsey and Zara Craig though batted with a lot of composure and posterity. They were able to rotate the strike well while also scoring at a brisk rate as reflected in their strike rates. Dempsey was dismissed for 50 off 38, an inning that had five boundaries and the unbeaten 52 by Zara Craig helped Ireland post 156/5. Ni Ariani with her three wickets was the pick of the bowlers and was supported by Ni Luh Dewi with her two wickets.
Indonesia was hit with a setback losing openers, Gusti Ulansari for 2 off 8 and Kadek Kurniartini for 4 and the unfortunate run out of Desi Wulandari with Therisiana Weo getting dismissed for 11 meant 4 wickets lost. Ni Luh Dewi was singlehandedly managing the batting but wickets around her kept falling. Ni Ariani, Ni Murtiari and Ni Indrayini’s consecutive dismissals further worsened the situation for Indonesia. Ni Suarniasih’s dismissal was the final nail in the coffin as the skipper and Gusti Pratiwi were left stranded with 107/8 on the board and a loss by a massive margin of 49 runs. Zara Craig who was also awarded the ‘Player of the Match’ led the charge with her 2 wickets while all the other bowlers ended up with one wicket in their kitty ensuring an Ireland win on the back of a dominant bowling performance.
