Ahead of the highly anticipated three-match ODI series against Australia, the Indian women’s team touched down in Brisbane from Mumbai on December 2. Led by Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, the Indian side made their way from Mumbai ahead of the marquee series against Australia. Players like Harleen Deol and Radha Yadav shared their excitement, while India’s Head Amol Muzumdar was also part of this touring contingent. The Indian team traveled from Mumbai to Singapore & then onward to Brisbane.

BCCI announced the 16-player squad for the series on November 19 which included some major changes as the young opener Shafali Verma was dropped from the side while Shreyanka Patil and Dayalan Hemalatha were the other missing names from the squad. Notably, Harleen Deol returned to the side after being out due to injury. Though Yastika Bhatia was earlier included, following a wrist injury, she is replaced by Uma Chetry.

During the three-match ODI series, the Indian side led by skipper Harmanpreet Kaur will be under the spotlight following India’s recent form where they beat New Zealand 2-1 in a three-match ODI series but the challenge against Australia will be a formidable one.

Beating Australia on their home soil has historically been challenging for India having won only four out of the 16 ODIs. The Indian side had lost the series the last time they toured Australia in 2021, but this Indian side would look to change their fortunes as they head into the series with an improved squad. Meanwhile, Australia will miss the services of their regular skipper Alyssa Healy who sustained an injury during the recently concluded Women’s Big Bash League, but Australia’s squad depth remains remarkable.

India will bank on the players like Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues in the batting unit. On pacer-friendly Australian conditions, Renuka Singh Thakur is expected to lead the bowling attack alongside Arundhati Reddy and Saima Thakur. All eyes will also be on Tejal Hasabnis and Minnu Manni who delivered impressive performances this year during India A’s tour of Australia A and this series presents a valuable opportunity for them to make a mark.

The three-match ODI series gets underway on December 5, with the first and second ODI scheduled to be played at the Allan Border field in Brisbane and the action then moves to the WACA Stadium in Perth for the final ODI. The series will be part of the ICC ODI Championship.
