The match began with India Women looking to set the foundation through their explosive opening pair of Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma. The duo added 31 runs before Marizanne Kapp provided the breakthrough, dismissing Mandhana for 17 off 12 deliveries. Shafali Verma continued the aggressive approach and scored 31 runs from just 15 balls, including four boundaries and a six, but her innings ended when Chloe Tryon and Ismail combined to remove her in the powerplay. India raced to 59/2 after six overs, keeping the momentum firmly in their favour.

Yastika Bhatia and Jemimah Rodrigues then attempted to rebuild the innings with a steady partnership. However, Nadine de Klerk struck at a crucial moment, removing Bhatia for 15, while Rodrigues departed soon after for 12 after being dismissed by a combined effort from de Klerk and the South African fielders. With India reduced to 83/4, the responsibility shifted towards captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Deepti Sharma.

The experienced pair revived India’s innings with a valuable partnership. Harmanpreet Kaur played a controlled knock of 24 runs from 22 balls, while Deepti Sharma provided the acceleration with 29 runs off 21 deliveries. Their partnership helped India cross the 130-run mark and provided the platform for a late flourish. South Africa’s bowlers kept fighting, with Kapp finishing with figures of 4-0-27-2, Shabnim Ismail taking 2 wickets for 28 runs, and Nonkululeko Mlaba claiming 1 wicket for 33 runs. Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits opened the innings with a positive approach, adding 25 runs before N Sree Charani dismissed Wolvaardt for 20. Annalie Dercksen struggled to get going and was removed by Charani for a duck, leaving South Africa at 22/2. However, Tazmin Brits steadied the innings with a useful 40-run knock from 36 balls before falling to Sree Charani, who was the pick of India’s bowlers.

The turning point of the match came when Marizanne Kapp joined the chase. Taking control of the situation, Kapp played a sensational unbeaten innings of 81 runs from just 45 balls, smashing seven fours and four sixes. She formed a crucial partnership with Nadine de Klerk, who contributed five runs, and later combined with Chloe Tryon to finish the chase in style. Tryon remained unbeaten on 10 runs from only four balls, striking at 250.00 and ensuring there was no late drama.

India’s bowling attack had moments of success, with Sree Charani impressing with figures of 4-1-24-3, while Shafali Verma picked up one wicket for 22 runs in four overs. Nandani Sharma bowled 2.1 overs for 17 runs, Arundhati Reddy conceded 29 runs in three overs, Prema Rawat gave away 21 runs in two overs, and Deepti Sharma went for 44 runs in her four overs without a wicket.
