Scotland’s Ailsa Lister Receives Demerit Point After Breaching ICC Code of Conduct

Scotland batter Ailsa Lister has been officially reprimanded by the International Cricket Council (ICC) after breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during Scotland’s ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 match against West Indies Women in Leeds on Thursday, June 18.

The incident happened late in Scotland’s innings during a closely fought match that saw the team fall just seven runs short of victory.

According to the ICC, Lister was found guilty of breaching Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. This rule relates to the misuse or abuse of cricket equipment, clothing, ground equipment, fixtures, or fittings during an international match.

As part of the punishment, Lister received an official reprimand, and one demerit point was added to her disciplinary record. It is the first offence on her record within the last 24 months.

The incident took place in the 19th over of Scotland’s run chase. Lister had played an important innings and scored 33 runs from 25 balls, helping keep Scotland in the contest while chasing a target of 154.

However, after being dismissed by West Indies bowler Aaliyah Alleyne, the Scotland batter showed her frustration as she walked back to the pavilion. The ICC stated that Lister threw her bat and gloves onto the ground after leaving the field of play. She then kicked and knocked over a bin that was placed near the Scotland team dugout.

Match officials reported the incident, and a charge was later brought against the batter.

Lister accepted responsibility for her actions and admitted the offence. She also accepted the punishment suggested by match referee GS Lakshmi from the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees. Because she accepted the charge, there was no need for a formal hearing.

The charge was laid by the match officials, which included on-field umpires Claire Polosak and Kerrin Klaaste, third umpire N. Janani, and fourth umpire Nimali Perera.

Under ICC rules, a Level 1 offence carries a minimum punishment of an official reprimand. The maximum penalty can be up to 50 percent of a player’s match fee along with one or two demerit points.

The incident came at the end of a disappointing result for Scotland, who came very close to recording a famous victory against West Indies.

West Indies posted 153/6 in their 20 overs after veteran all-rounder Stafanie Taylor produced a brilliant unbeaten 47 from just 19 balls. Her late hitting helped West Indies add valuable runs in the closing overs and pushed the total beyond 150.

In reply, Scotland fought hard throughout the chase. Darcey Carter led the way with 59 runs, while Lister added an important 33. Scotland remained in the contest until the final overs but eventually finished on 146 all out from their 20 overs.

Although Scotland earned praise for their fighting performance, Lister’s actions after her dismissal resulted in disciplinary action from the ICC. The batter will now hope to move on quickly and focus on helping Scotland in their remaining matches at the Women’s T20 World Cup.
