Shawnisha Hector is a pace-bowling all-rounder from Antigua and Barbuda who has steadily progressed through the Caribbean cricket system to reach the West Indies women’s team. Representing the Leeward Islands in regional cricket, Hector established herself as a dependable top-order batter capable of contributing useful overs with the ball. Her rise to prominence was particularly significant as she became the first female cricketer from Antigua and Barbuda to earn selection for the West Indies women’s senior side, marking an important milestone for cricket in her country.

Known for her height and ability to extract bounce, Hector offers a skillset that differs from many Caribbean bowlers. While she is naturally a batter who can contribute with the ball, her medium pace has often been her most valuable asset. She has also demonstrated leadership qualities at the domestic level, serving as captain of the Leeward Islands women’s team.

In the 2025 CWI T20 Blaze tournament, she captained the Leeward Islands side and led from the front with the bat. Hector finished as the highest run-scorer of the tournament, accumulating 136 runs in five matches, including a best score of 58. Her contributions at the top of the order played a key role in Leeward Islands enjoying a perfect campaign, winning all five of their matches during the tournament.

Shawnisha Hector’s International Career

Hector received her maiden West Indies call-up in 2019 and made her Women’s ODI debut against India in November of that year. She later featured in the T20I setup as Cricket West Indies continued investing in young all-rounders capable of strengthening squad depth across formats. In recognition of her potential, she was awarded a central contract by Cricket West Indies in 2021.

Although opportunities at international level have been limited, Hector has shown encouraging signs whenever selected. In six T20I appearances, she has scored 15 runs and claimed 5 wickets, with best figures of 2/21. Her bowling strike rate of 14.4 balls per wicket highlights her ability to make breakthroughs despite a relatively small sample size of matches. Her batting numbers have yet to reflect her domestic potential, but she remains a player viewed as capable of contributing valuable lower-order runs.

At franchise level, Hector has represented Trinbago Knight Riders Women in the Women’s Caribbean Premier League, gaining exposure to a higher standard of competition and some of the region’s best players. While her opportunities in franchise cricket have been limited so far, the experience has helped accelerate her development and provided valuable preparation for international cricket.

Hector’s medium pace could become a useful asset if conditions favour seam bowling. English surfaces often provide movement and bounce for pace bowlers, qualities that align well with her strengths. Hector provides valuable squad depth through her all-round abilities. Her capacity to contribute in multiple disciplines, combined with her experience as a domestic captain, makes her a useful option who can fill various roles when required.
