Manchester Super Giants, led by skipper Meg Lanning, were up against the Trent Rockets, led by skipper Ashleigh Gardner, at Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester, in the 14th match of the ongoing 6th edition of the Women’s Hundred on 31st July 2026. Both sides made a change each: Katie Levick replaced Nat Sciver-Brunt for the visitors, and Joanne Gardner replaced Grace Scrivens for the Super Giants in the starting 11.
The Manchester Super Giants skipper Meg Lanning won the toss and opted to bowl first. The Rockets lost the wicket of their wicket-keeper batter Beth Mooney in the 3rd set of the innings. Grace Ballinger provided the first breakthrough for the home side.
Sophie Luff joined Sophia Dunkley at the crease, and the duo led the recovery with a massive 91-run stand for the 2nd wicket, which took them to the 100-run mark. Maitlan Brown broke the stand, by sending Sophie Luff (51 off 26 balls) back to the pavilion in the 13th set of the innings to provide the much-needed 2nd breakthrough for her side. The Super Giants pulled things back significantly, putting the squeeze on the scoring rate. The Rockets managed 53 runs in the last 38 deliveries, courtesy of a handy cameo from Georgia Adams (20* off 13 balls); the Rockets posted an imposing total of 153/8 in their quota of 100 deliveries. Sophia Dunkley continued with her form as she registered an impressive half-century of 57 (33 balls).
Sophie Ecclestone (20-10-24-2), Grace Ballinger (20-10-21-1), Maitlan Brown (20-4-34-1), and Maddy Villiers (20-4-37-1) were impressive with the ball for Manchester Super Giants.
–Chasing a stiff total of 154, the Manchester Super Giants struggled to find momentum as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. A quick-fire 28-run stand for the 4th wicket involving skipper Meg Lanning and the wicket-keeper batter Richa Ghosh (13 off 8 balls) infused hope for the home side. Kathryn Bryce (27 off 19 balls) stepped onto the accelerator alongside skipper Meg Lanning (35 off 24 balls) to keep them interested.
Skipper Ashleigh Gardner got the better of her opposite number to provide a massive 5th breakthrough for her side in the 15th set of the run chase. Soon after, Georgia Adams landed a hammer blow by dismissing an ominous Kathryn Bryce at a crucial juncture in the run chase. The wheels came off quickly for the home side after her departure.
The Super Giants eventually got bundled out for 122, with 7 balls to spare, falling 31 runs short of the target. The home side lost their last four wickets for just 22 runs. Maitlan Brown (16* off 7 balls) played her part with the bat for the Super Giants. Skipper Ashleigh Gardner (18-8-16-4), Charley Phillips (15-7-20-2), Samantha Bates (20-11-26-2), and Kim Garth (20-8-27-0) were impressive with the ball for Trent Rockets.
Sophia Dunkley was awarded the Player of the Match for her impressive half-century (57 off 33 balls). Her knock included 6 boundaries and 3 maximums. The Trent Rockets registered their 2nd consecutive win of the ongoing season and are placed 2nd on the points table with 12 points from 4 games in their campaign so far.
