The Ellyse Perry-led Birmingham Phoenix were up against Trent Rockets, led by skipper Ashleigh Gardner, at Edgbaston, Birmingham, in the 4th match of the ongoing 6th edition of the Women’s Hundred 2026 on 24th July 2026.
The Manchester Super Giants defeated the London Spirit by 7 wickets in the 3rd match of the tournament on 23rd July 2026. Alana King, Kayla Reyneke, Annerie Dercksen, alongside skipper Ellyse Perry, formed the overseas core for the Birmingham Phoenix. Kim Garth, Samantha Bates, Beth Mooney, alongside skipper Ashleigh Gardner, formed the overseas core for Trent Rockets.
The Rockets bowlers ran through the Birmingham lineup after skipper Ashleigh Gardner won the toss and opted to field first at Birmingham. The Phoenix batters were unable to get to terms with the conditions on offer. A 12-run stand for the 7th wicket between Alana King and skipper Ellyse Perry, followed by a 19-run stand for the 8th wicket alongside Eva Gray, and then a 12-run stand alongside Linsey Smith took them past the 50-run mark.
The Birmingham Phoenix eventually managed a total of 64, before getting bundled out with five balls to spare. Skipper Ellyse Perry (39 off 33 balls) was the only batter to enter the double digits for the home side. Samantha Bates (20-13-10-3), Georgia Elwiss (20-12-13-3), Kim Garth (15-11-5-2), and Katie Levick (20-14-8-1) were exceptional with the ball for Trent Rockets. Skipper Ashleigh Gardner (15-5-19-1) played her part with the ball for her side.
Chasing a target of 65, Sophia Dunkley gave Trent Rockets a flying start alongside the wicket-keeper batter Beth Mooney, with a 40-run opening stand. Lauren Filer cleaned up Beth Mooney in the 4th set of the run chase to provide the much-needed first breakthrough for the Birmingham Phoenix.
Sophie Luff (19* off 9 balls) joined opening batter Sophia Dunkley (43* off 17 balls) at the crease, and the duo powered Trent Rockets over the line with 9 wickets in hand and 69 balls to spare courtesy of an unbeaten 28-run stand for the 2nd wicket. Lauren Filer (6-1-17-1) was the only wicket-taker with the ball for Birmingham Phoenix.
Samantha Bates was awarded the Player of the Match for her sensational and eventually decisive spell of 20-13-10-3 with the ball for her side in the game, setting up a solid platform for a dominant win.
