Following their tied game earlier this season and with three wins apiece from six matches, the Oval Invincibles and the London Spirit are set to clash again in match no. 26 of the fourth edition of The Hundred (Women’s) at The Oval in London. The match is slated for 4:00 PM Indian Standard Time (IST) on the 11th of August 2024.
Squads:
Oval Invincibles – Chamari Athapaththu, Marizanne Kapp, Alice Capsey, Lauren Winfield-Hill, Amanda-Jade Wellington, Mady Villiers, Paige Scholfield, Sophia Smale, Ryana MacDonald-Gay, Jo Gardner, Lizzie Scott, Georgie Boyce, Rachel Slater, Amara Carr
London Spirit – Meg Lanning, Heather Knight, Deepti Sharma, Danielle Gibson, Charlie Dean, Sarah Glenn, Cordelia Griffith, Georgia Redmayne, Eva Gray, Sophie Munro, Hannah Jones, Tara Norris, Niamh Holland, Abbey Freeborn, Ellie Anderson
Players to watch out:
Smriti Mandhana
The 28-year-old opening batter, from 27 appearances in The Hundred, has amassed 633 runs at an average of 26.37, a strike rate of 139.73, and registered the highest score of 78. With 3 fifties in her previous 5 international outings, Smriti was in brilliant form leading up to this season of The Hundred but has departed cheaply for 15, 0, and 2. Nonetheless, she is a seasoned batter and can be trusted to stage a turnaround.
Amanda-Jade Wellington
The 27-year-old all-rounder in The Hundred, from 29 outings, has taken 43 wickets, maintaining an economy rate of 6.80, and has contributed 135 runs from 15 innings at a strike rate of 119.46. Carrying on her impressive domestic form into this tournament, Amanda-Jade has taken 8 wickets from 6 outings this season of The Hundred and can be counted on for contributions with both bat and ball.
Meg Lanning
The 32-year-old top-order batter in her ongoing inaugural stint of The Hundred hasn’t had much success, registering scores of 12, 53, 31, 1, 23, and 4. Now retired from international cricket, Meg last took the field in March 2024 during the WPL, where she accumulated 331 runs at an average of 36.77 from 9 T20 outings. She is a reliable batter and should be backed to find her footing in this competition.
Charlie Dean
The 23-year-old all-rounder in The Hundred has picked up 15 wickets from 26 outings and posted 123 runs from 16 innings, with bests of 18 and 3/20. Charlie had an outstanding international season this summer; however, she failed to transfer that form into this campaign, picking up just one wicket in five games before producing a 3-fer in her most recent outing. Hopefully, she will capitalize on this return to form.
