Sydney Sixers all-rounder Caoimhe Bray made history as the youngest debutant in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) at just 15 years old. She stepped onto the field in the season opener for the Sixers against the Melbourne Renegades, marking the beginning of a remarkable journey.
On her WBBL debut, Bray set a record as the youngest player to ever feature in a WBBL match. Her first over was filled with excitement and memorable moments. Bowling to the experienced West Indies star Deandra Dottin, Bray’s debut began dramatically when Dottin hit her first delivery for six, followed by two boundaries. However, Bray had the last laugh, taking Dottin’s wicket with a stunning delivery on the final ball of the over to end on a high.
Later, with the bat, Bray scored a vital unbeaten 12 off 5 deliveries, including the winning runs in the form of a boundary, helping her team chase down a target of 178 for an unforgettable debut. Just a month earlier, Bray celebrated her 15th birthday before signing a three-year contract with the Sydney Sixers, setting her on a path alongside renowned players like Ellyse Perry.
Bray was named in the Sixers’ 13-player squad for the season opener against the Melbourne Renegades at Adelaide Oval, a sign of the team’s belief in her potential. Known not only for her talent in cricket, Bray also shines as a skilled goalkeeper for the Junior Matildas, the national football team, showcasing her impressive athletic range.
Recently, Bray represented the Sixers in the T20 Spring Challenge, where she played four matches and made an impactful debut against the Adelaide Strikers, claiming 2/19 in her four-over spell. Across the tournament, the fast-bowling all-rounder took five wickets, including a vital dismissal of Brisbane Heat’s Grace Harris. Her performance reflected her all-round capabilities, combining pace and precision with the ball.
