1. Objective of Canam women’s Cricket? What was the idea behind starting up?
Our tag line is Play More! CanAm United Women’s Cricket Association is a non-profit organization, run by its’ female member/volunteers with a simple mission for helping female cricket players throughout the Americas to Play More! Our members get lots of match experience while promoting the Spirit of Cricket in a variety of settings and cricketing conditions. Players sign-up with CanAm for different reasons – some wish to simply enjoy the camaraderie and join for fun and friendship, whereas many players are aspiring to play at the highest level and recognize CanAm as a development platform for helping them gain more exposure to benefit their cricketing careers.
2. Highlight 3 main achievements since it’s inception.
CanAm has been likened to and is being viewed as, the ‘MCC of the Americas for women’s cricket
Toured Argentina to play against national team, The Flamingo’s, in 2015 and 2016
Toured England in August 2016, playing a total of 13 fixtures including against representative teams from Middlesex, Essex, an X-England XI and the MCC, where the Duchess of Marlborough and Mayor of Chelmsford attended. We also toured Lord’s and had photo’s taken with the world cup and met top cricketers, Ellyse Perry; Stefanie Taylor; Suzie Bates; Heather Knight
Hosted a match against the MCC during their recent tour of North America, playing against cricketing legends, Charlotte Edwards and Claire Taylor.
3. Who are the driving force of Canam women’s Cricket?
The player/members themselves are the driving force behind CanAm. Although much of the day-to-day running of the organization falls on the shoulders of the four-member board – Durriya Shabbir, Treasurer; Kathryn Gregory, Secretary & General Counsel; Durga Das, Advocate and Julie Abbott, General Manager.
4. Highlight upcoming tours and fixtures.
CanAm has an exciting schedule planned for 2017 with events in the USA and Canada. Special guest and cricketing legend, Charlotte Edwards will support CanAm development and events in April and September and in May, we will participate in the Philadelphia International Cricket Festival. The CanAm invitational XI will be the first and only women’s team to participate in the all-men Philadelphia tournament which will be celebrating its 25th anniversary. Our year will conclude in December with a tour to South Africa where we will play a series of 6 matches including a fixture against Western Province.

Female Cricket is an excellent platform for singing the praises of all women’s cricket all around the world!
