The visitors elected to field first in a must-win game, trailing 1-0 going into the second ODI of the 3-match series. The first of Filer’s two unplayable deliveries came in her first over with the English pacer providing the early breakthrough, dismissing South African opener Tazmin Brits in the second ball of the second over.
Playing the wrong line, Brits drove loosely without getting to the pitch of the ball and a late swing movement from Filer went through Brits’ defense with the middle stump cartwheeling.
Filer wasn’t done yet, as she then sent former Proteas skipper Sune Luus packing. After pinning Luss with a couple of short deliveries, the English pacer bowled a delivery angling into the body but swung off the seam. Luus was unable to cover the movement and was left helpless with the ball rattling the middle and leg stumps. The sight of the stumps flying displayed Filer’s dominance in her opening spell.
Her third wicket came on rattling the stumps of Nonkululeko Mlaba as she finished with figures 3/32 in six overs as South Africa were bowled out for 135 and England chased down the total with ease to win the match by six wickets.
