In the 2nd ODI, the home side continued with the same side that took the field in the 1st ODI, while the visitors, England, made a couple of changes to their side, with Maia Bouchier replacing Sophia Dunkley, and Kate Cross coming in for Lauren Bell in the playing 11.

Annerie Dercksen and Laura Wolvaardt’s partnership takes South Africa to a respectable total

England got off to a superb start, nipping out a couple of wickets in the form of Tazmin Brits and Sune Luus inside the first four overs of the innings. Annerie Dercksen joined skipper Laura Wolvaardt at the crease and the duo steadied the ship with a much-needed 58-run partnership for the 3rd wicket. Charlie Dean struck twice in the 17th over of the innings to bring the visitors, England back into the contest.

South Africa were eventually bundled out for 135, with 111 balls to spare. Chloe Tryon (45 off 49 balls), skipper Laura Wolvaardt (35 off 50 balls), and Annerie Dercksen (29 off 44 balls) were the star performers with the bat for South Africa. Charlie Dean (10-1-45-4) claimed a hat-trick, her victims included Marizanne Kapp, Nadine de Klerk, and Sinalo Jafta. Sophie Ecclestone (7.3-0-27-3), and Lauren Filer (6-0-32-3) were the stand-out performers with the ball for England.

England openers make light work of the chase to level the ODI series

The England openers Maia Bouchier (34 off 52 balls) and Tammy Beaumont (33 off 36 balls) almost killed the run chase with a massive 69-run opening partnership accounting for a significant amount of (50%) the team’s total. Annerie Dercksen picked up the wicket of Maia Bouchier to provide the first breakthrough for South Africa. The visitors, England lost a couple of wickets in quick succession to bring the home side back into the contest.

Danielle Wyatt-Hodge (25* off 23 balls) joined Nat Sciver-Brunt (20 off 19 balls) at the crease and the duo stitched a much-needed 47-run 4th wicket partnership to take their side closer to the 130-run partnership. Nadine de Klerk picked up the wicket of Nat Sciver-Brunt to provide the 4th breakthrough for South Africa. England eventually got over the line with 6 wickets in hand and 156 balls to spare to level the ODI series. Annerie Dercksen (4-0-22-2), Marizanne Kapp (5-1-14-1), Nadine de Klerk (3-0-25-1), and Nonkululeko Mlaba (5-0-30-0) were the pick of the bowlers for the home side.

England’s Charlie Dean was awarded the Player of the Match for her sensational match-winning spell of 10-1-45-4 with the ball.
