The Blaze Women continued their strong campaign in the ECB Women’s One-Day Cup 2026 with a commanding four-wicket victory over Yorkshire Women at Queen’s Park, Chesterfield. After Yorkshire elected to bat first, the match saw several promising partnerships, but a lack of sustained momentum ultimately prevented them from posting a more challenging target. The Blaze then overcame a few stumbles during the chase before captain Marie Kelly produced a match-winning innings to guide her side home with 119 balls remaining.

Yorkshire Women began cautiously but suffered an early setback when captain Lauren Winfield-Hill was dismissed for 3. With the score on 6, Charley Phillips induced an edge that was safely taken behind, giving The Blaze an ideal start. Ami Campbell joined Erin Thomas and the pair briefly attempted to settle the innings, but Campbell managed only 2 before becoming Charli Knott’s first victim. Yorkshire found themselves at 6/2 and under immediate pressure from the disciplined Blaze attack.
Erin Thomas responded positively and formed a useful 35-run partnership with Jess Jonassen for the third wicket. Thomas looked comfortable during her knock of 25 from 33 deliveries, while Jonassen contributed 9 from 15 balls. However, Knott struck again to remove Jonassen at 26/3, ensuring Yorkshire could not establish complete control. Alice Clarke then joined Thomas and the duo added another 21 runs before Thomas was trapped lbw by Maria Andrews. Yorkshire slipped to 47/4, and despite several batters getting starts, they still lacked the substantial partnership needed to build a big score.
The middle overs belonged to Rebecca Duckworth and Sarah Glenn, who staged Yorkshire’s most productive stand of the innings. Their 57-run fifth-wicket partnership finally gave the innings some stability after a series of regular breakthroughs. Duckworth made a patient 26 from 84 balls, while Glenn top-scored with a valuable 30 from 41 deliveries, striking three boundaries. The stand lifted Yorkshire from 60/5 to 119/6 and briefly raised hopes of a competitive total. However, once Glenn fell to Lucy Higham and Duckworth followed shortly after, the innings began to unravel again.
Yorkshire’s lower order fought hard but struggled to accelerate. Ines Blackwell contributed 17 from 30 balls and shared a 13-run partnership with Beth Langston, who added a quick 7 from just 6 deliveries. Claudie Cooper remained unbeaten on 0, while Lucy Randle-Bissell managed only 1 before becoming Phillips’ third wicket. Yorkshire were eventually bowled out for 150 in 42.3 overs, with 15 extras helping them reach the mark. The frequent loss of wickets meant no batter could convert a promising start into a match-defining innings.
The Blaze’s bowling unit delivered a disciplined collective performance throughout the innings. Charley Phillips was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3 for 29 from 8.3 overs, removing Lauren Winfield-Hill, Beth Langston and Lucy Randle-Bissell. Charli Knott played a crucial role in the middle overs with 2 for 27 from 8 overs, dismissing Ami Campbell and Jess Jonassen. Maria Andrews maintained excellent control and returned 2 for 20 from 10 overs, including the important wicket of Erin Thomas. Lucy Higham chipped in with 0 for 21, while Georgia Elwiss claimed 2 for 34. Josie Groves remained wicketless but kept things tidy during her three overs.
Chasing 151, The Blaze suffered an early blow when Tammy Beaumont departed for 9 with the score at 33. Marie Kelly, however, looked assured from the outset and anchored the innings brilliantly. She first shared a 15-run partnership with Charli Knott before Yorkshire struck twice in quick succession. Knott made 12, while Georgia Elwiss was dismissed for just 1 as Yorkshire reduced The Blaze to 51/3. The pressure increased further when Michaela Kirk, who contributed 18 runs, fell after adding 42 valuable runs alongside Kelly. At 93/4, Yorkshire sensed an opportunity to make a contest of the chase.
The decisive phase arrived through a composed 51-run partnership between Marie Kelly and Prisha Thanawala. Kelly expertly controlled the tempo, rotating strike while punishing loose deliveries, whereas Thanawala played a crucial supporting role with 30 from 36 balls, including five boundaries. Their stand carried The Blaze to 144 before Thanawala was run out. Although Yorkshire managed another wicket when Kelly departed for a magnificent 66 from 87 balls, featuring nine boundaries, the result was already beyond doubt.
Ella Claridge remained unbeaten on 6, while Lucy Higham finished unbeaten on 1 as The Blaze reached 151/6 in 30.1 overs, sealing victory with nearly 20 overs to spare. Kelly’s captain’s knock proved the difference between the two sides, combining patience with timely aggression to ensure the chase never drifted out of control.
Yorkshire’s bowlers fought hard despite defending a modest target. Ines Blackwell produced the best figures with 1 for 24 from 5.1 overs, dismissing Kelly late in the chase. Sarah Glenn picked up 1 for 38, while Beth Langston claimed 3 for 43, including the wickets of Beaumont and Elwiss. Jess Jonassen bowled economically and returned 0 for 29, while Claudie Cooper remained wicketless despite conceding only 16 runs from four overs.
