Match no. 17 of the ongoing Charlotte Edwards (CE) Cup will see The Blaze and Central Sparks face off at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, on the 31st of May, 2024, at 7:00 PM Indian Standard Time (IST).
Squads:
The Blaze – Bethan Gammon, Bethany Harmer, Georgie Boyce, Marie Kelly, Michaela Kirk, Tammy Beaumont, Kathryn Bryce, Kirstie Gordon, Nadine de Klerk, Teresa Graves, Ella Claridge, Sarah Bryce, Cassidy McCarthy, Grace Ballinger, Josie Groves, Lucy Higham, Sarah Glenn
Central Sparks – Eve Jones, Emily Arlott, Chloe Brewer, Hannah Baker, Ami Campbell, Georgia Davis, Bethan Ellis, Abbey Freeborn, Ria Fackrell, Katie George, Charis Pavely, Davina Perrin, Grace Potts, Courtney Webb
Players to watch out:
Sarah Bryce
The 24-year-old keeper-batter, striking at 127.77, accumulated 115 runs, including the highest of 67*, from 6 CE Cup innings last summer. Sarah has struggled for runs of late, and coming off a dry run in international cricket into the 2024 CE Cup, she has managed starts of 18 and 24 in her previous couple of outings. She’ll be backed to capitalize on these starts, following up with a big score.
Sarah Glenn
The 24-year-old leg-spinner, with an economy rate of 5.33, scalped 6 wickets from 5 CE Cup games last season, and also chipped in with the bat, scoring 81 runs. Sarah hasn’t consistently been amongst wickets this season; however, she has been economical. Sarah’s bowling returns in T20Is against Pakistan from mid-this month read 4/15, 2/10, and 0/21. She can be relied upon for breakthroughs.
Abbey Freeborn
The 27-year-old keeper-batter, from 6 CE Cup outings last edition, only scored 108 runs, including the highest of 31*. However, she kicked off the ongoing season with a fifty and though departed cheaply in the subsequent games, she found her form with a solid 93 and 49, and has since managed starts. In the T20 opener, she departed for 13, but top-scored with a 68 in her very next outing and will be backed to find consistency.
Grace Potts
The 21-year-old pacer had a notable CE Cup season last summer, bagging 4 wickets from 3 outings, maintaining an economy rate of 5.50. Grace has been in outstanding form this season, recording 6 wickets from 5 One Dayers, and impressed in a T20 against Pakistan, producing figures of 4/13. She has now registered successive 3-fers in her previous couple of CE Cup games and hopefully extends this purple patch.
Pitch:
The 22 yards at Trent Bridge offers a well-balanced playing surface that is suited for both batters and bowlers. While spinners enjoy the assistance of the pitch, batters are rewarded for their shots, and the average score at the venue is in the 130s.
Weather:
It is expected to be a pleasant day for cricket despite cloudy overhead with no rain interruptions. The temperature is forecasted to hover around 16°C, with moderate winds and humidity of 71%.
