Players to watch out:
Charlie Knott
The 21-year-old Australian all-rounder, in her maiden English cricket stint, impressed with conservative scores of 41, 58*, 40, 7, 102, and 11 in the One Dayers, while also taking 10 wickets. Carrying her all-round form into the CE Cup, she has registered scores of 6, 22, and 50, and also picked up 3 wickets. She’ll be counted on to continue this run of form, delivering the goods.
Freya Davies
The 26-year-old pacer, maintaining an economy of 7.76, bagged 4 wickets from 5 CE Cup outings last summer. Freya, kicked off her ’24 season with expensive figures of 0/72, but quickly returned to her economical best and also amongst wickets. However, she has bowled her best in the CE Cup fixtures, returning figures of 2/23, 1/15, and 3/22. It’ll be hoped she maximizes this form.
Alex Griffiths
The 21-year-old all-rounder added only 55 runs to the tally from 4 CE Cup innings last summer, while claiming just 2 wickets from 5 innings. Notably, in the ongoing domestic season, Alex has picked up a wicket in every outing barring the first couple of games, while also consistently managing starts. She’ll be backed to capitalize on this form, stepping up her efforts.
Issy Wong
The 22-year-old pacer, following a stellar 2023 Women’s Premier League season, has failed to shine under the spotlight, to the extent that she was dropped from the national team and now loaned in the CE Cup. In snippets, she has since proved her mettle, and though she is yet to take the field in a T20 game, she picked up 3 wickets from 5 One Dayers early this season. She has worked on her bowling and is one to be tracked.
Pitch:
The 22-yard strip at the Rose Bowl favors both batters and bowlers, with spinners especially benefiting from the conditions. With the pitch likely to remain consistent throughout the game, an engaging high-scoring contest can be expected.
