Rita Musamali’s Unbeaten 46 Helps Uganda Women Secure 4-0 T20I Series Lead Over Canada

In an exciting match at the Lugogo Cricket Oval in Kampala on October 24, 2025, the Uganda Women’s team took charge early against the Canada Women in the 4th T20 International (T20I) of their 5-match series. Despite facing some early setbacks, Uganda built enough momentum to secure a convincing victory. Opting to bat first was a smart move, and it paid off as they gradually established a solid foundation before ramping up the scoring in the final overs.

Uganda’s innings began cautiously, with the openers taking time to adjust to the pitch. The first wicket fell quickly at just 10 runs, as Janet Mbabazi walked back for 5. However, this did not shake Uganda’s confidence. Though they lost their second wicket at 25 of Immaculate Nakisuuyi (5) and the third at 32 of Esther Iloku (11), the team remained composed.

Senior players stepped up when it mattered. Rita Musamali anchored the innings with a steady 46* runs off 43 balls, timing her shots beautifully and rotating the strike effectively. Prosscovia Alako provided strong support with a solid 31* off 30, hitting three boundaries and a six. Their partnership proved pivotal, taking Uganda past the important 50-run mark and allowing the team to build a platform for a competitive score.

The fourth wicket fell at 50 runs (Stephani Nampiina) in the 10.3 over, but by then, the core of the innings was secure. With a foundation laid, Uganda’s players increased their scoring rate. The tailenders contributed valuable runs, and the final overs were marked by more aggressive strokes and better risk management, pushing Uganda to a total of 113 for 4 in 20 overs.

Rabbjyot Rajput with 3/16 from 4 lead Canada’s disciplined bowling attack and was well supported by Terisha Lavia (1/13) and Indomatie Goordial-John (0/14), while Vandana Mahajan (0/38), Amarpal Kaur (0/23) and Tiffany Thorpe (0/9) proving little expensive.

In reply, the Canadian women’s team faced immediate difficulty. They lost their first wicket without scoring in just 0.3 overs, with Achini Perera going out, followed by Indomatie Goordial shortly after. Canada’s batting struggles continued as they tried to find their footing. Amarpal Kaur (5 off 6) and Kainat Qazi (14 off 30) showed some promise, and Krima Kapadia (8 off 12) tried to stabilise the innings, but none could form a solid partnership.

A series of runouts and quick wickets derailed their chase, with Amarpal Kaur (5), Krima Kapadia (8), Trishan Lavia (3), and Vandana Mahajan (13) falling in quick succession, reduced to 50/7 in the chase of 114. Uganda’s disciplined bowling added pressure to Canada’s batting lineup. Kevin Amuge shone with figures of 2 wickets for just 12 runs in 4 overs, while Concy Aweko and Naome Amongin kept things tight, preventing Canada from gaining any momentum.

Ultimately, Canada was bowled out (or nine down) for just 70 runs in their 20 overs, handing Uganda a comfortable 43-run victory, extending their series lead to 4-0.
