Summary: 2nd ODI – Bangladesh Women level series as they defeat Pakistan in a last-over thriller
Bangladesh Women ended their Pakistan tour on a happy note as they chased Pakistan Women’s target in the last over of the match to win the second ODI at Lahore. It was a close match between the two sides which saw Bangladesh Women ending on the winning side, thus leveling the 2 match series 1-1 against Pakistan.
Batting first, Pakistan’s openers gave their side a good start. Javeria Khan and Nahida Khan had a 58-run stand at the top. While Javeria made 24, Nahida stayed on to make a half-ton for her side. She top-scored with 63 runs off 79 deliveries while captain Bismah Maroof departed after scoring 34 runs in 53 balls. Aliya Riaz also made a 68-ball 36 to take the team’s total to 210 runs before they got bowled out in the penultimate over of the innings.
Bangladesh’s bowlers made sure that they take frequent wickets with captain Rumana Ahmed leading the pack. She had a 3-fer to her name while Salma Khatun bagged 2 wickets. Ace bowler Jahanara Alam, though, went wicketless in the match.
Bangladesh openers followed the same route in the second innings. Murshida Khatun 44(67) and Sharmin Sultana 27(26) gave the side a good start. Captain Rumana made 31 runs to add to her tally of 3 wickets while Sanjida Islam made 20 runs. Fargana Hoque played a major role in the chase as she hit a half-century. She made 67 runs in 97 balls to take the chase deep.
After 49 overs, Bangladesh were 208/9. They needed 3 runs in 6 balls while Pakistan desperately wanted the final wicket to fall. Jahanara Alam and Nahida Akter were at the crease. They both hit the required 3 runs before Pakistan could take a wicket, to win the match in the 5th ball of the final over. What a match this was between the two sides! It was an absolute thriller as Bangladesh obtained their only win of the tour. Pakistan’s Aroob Shah and captain Maroof took 2 wickets in a losing cause. For her match-winning 67, Fargana Hoque was declared as the Player of the Match.
