Summary: 1st ODI – Nahida Khan and Sana Mir guide Pakistan to a 29-run victory against Bangladesh

An all-round performance from Pakistan ensured that they win over Bangladesh and go 1-0 up in the 2 match ODI series. Nahida Khan with the bat and Sana Mir with the ball gave their best to ensure that Bangladesh don’t get away with a win in the first ODI match at Lahore. After opting to bat first, Pakistan Women made 215 runs before getting bowled out by the Bangladesh bowlers. Bangladesh in reply could make only 186 runs before succumbing to the Pakistan bowling line-up.

Pakistan started the innings with openers Nahida Khan and Ameen putting up a stand of 59 runs. They both batted till 20 overs when Ameen 21(67) was bowled by Fahima Khatun. Bangladesh’s Player of the T20I Series Jahanara Alam carried her brilliant form to the ODI series as she took 3 wickets. She was the only bowler from her side who bowled the quota of 10 overs and took a 3-fer. Her first wicket came in the form of Bismah Maroof who departed after scoring 39 runs in 43 balls. Omaima Sohail 29(27) and Aliya Riaz 37(33) also scored valuable runs. The star of the innings was Nahida Khan who stayed to hit a half-ton. She made 68 runs in 97 balls and became the top scorer of the game as well.

Bangladesh’s Panna Ghosh and Nahida Akter complemented Alam’s bowling to take down the wickets of Pakistan. They both scalped 2 wickets with Akter getting the prized wicket of Javeria Khan while she was on 2(4). Pakistan bundled out in the 5th ball of the penultimate over giving a target of 216 for Bangladesh to chase.

Sana Mir of Pakistan was sure to make things difficult for Bangladesh as she bowled in the right areas in the second innings. She took the first two wickets – Murshida Khatun and Sanjida Islam in the 2nd and 4th over respectively. Her 3rd wicket came in the form of Nigar Sultana, who was the highest scorer from Bangladesh’s side. Nigar fought a lone battle as she raced towards her half-century, ultimately finishing on 58 off 77. The hopes of the visitors were diminished when she was out in the 47th over as Bangladesh lost all of its remaining wickets in the next over. Captain Rumana Ahmed 28(60) and Fargana Hoque 27(57) contributed to a losing cause. Salma Khatun hit a couple of boundaries before getting out in the next over. Bangladesh were all-out in 48 overs scoring 186 runs. Along with Mir, it was Baig, Sadia Iqbal and Nashra Sandhu who bowled well. They took 2 wickets each.
