Assistant coach and former fast bowler Ryan Harris impressed with Tayla Vlaeminck and Darcie Brown

Australia coach Ryan Harris feels that Tayla Vlaeminck and Darcie Brown have proved to be wonders for the team within a very short period of time. The two were successful in taking down the top-order New Zealand batters in the ODI and T20I series. Vlaeminck, who made a return in the ODI series after her injury managed to add quick wickets to her scalp, and Brown showcased some brilliant spells after her debut in the second T20I.

“What can Darcie do in the game? Well, it’s up to her … the sky is the limit, I look at her and the ease in the way she does run into the wicket and delivers the ball, her pace is really good for her age. I think there’s still room for improvement there as well, which is the scary thing,” said Harris.

“Tayla is still learning (too), she’s so raw, she loves the game and if she could she’d bowl 15, 20 overs a day just to bowl the perfect ball. I love that, I see a bit of myself in her, just a bull at the gate who wants to get better and wants it now, wants to bowl fast, and wants success. It’s a great attitude to have,” he added.

The 18-year-old youngster has made quite an impression on Harris post her debut in the T20I series in Napier. Happy with her ability to perform for the team, he said- “Darcie just does it so easy. It makes me jealous, actually, because I had to work hard to bowl fast and she does it so easy as well. She’s got it all. She’s an athlete, she gets into the wicket easy and gets through her delivery stride with ease.”

Harris is very proud of the two players, apart from the experienced pacers like Ellyse Perry, Nicola Carey, and Megan Schutt. For him, watching Vlaeminck and Brown bowl over the speed of 120kph at regular intervals has been the highlights of the series.

Australia recently outperformed New Zealand in their home soil, clean sweeping both ODI and T20I series.
