Georgia Voll Hits Maiden T20I Century as Australia Women Complete 3-0 West Indies Sweep

Australia Women produced a commanding all-round performance to seal a rain-affected victory over West Indies Women in the third T20I at Kingstown, with a breathtaking century from Georgia Voll setting up the contest before a disciplined bowling effort completed a comprehensive win via the DLS method. The encounter unfolded as a classic example of momentum-driven T20 cricket, where partnerships, timely wickets, and smart bowling phases shaped the outcome across both innings.

Australia Women’s innings did not begin with complete dominance as West Indies struck early to create an opening breakthrough. Beth Mooney looked fluent during her brief stay, striking two boundaries in her 11 off 8 balls, but Zaida James provided the first success when Mooney was dismissed at 18/1 in just 1.6 overs. The early wicket brought Georgia Voll to the forefront, and what followed became the defining phase of the match.

Voll quickly shifted the momentum alongside Phoebe Litchfield, stitching together a lively partnership that rebuilt the innings after the early loss. Litchfield played aggressively, scoring 15 off only 8 balls with three boundaries, helping Australia accelerate through the powerplay. Their stand carried Australia to 57 before Hayley Matthews intervened, removing Litchfield at 5.1 overs to break the growing momentum.

Undeterred, Voll continued her remarkable knock and found support from Ellyse Perry. The pair added another crucial partnership, rotating strike effectively while punishing loose deliveries. Perry contributed a composed 18 off 15 balls, including a boundary and a six, before Deandra Dottin broke through at 99/3 in the 10.1 over mark. Shortly after, Matthews struck again to remove Tahlia McGrath for 2, briefly slowing Australia’s progress at 112/4.

The middle overs, however, belonged entirely to Georgia Voll, whose innings blended power and placement with exceptional maturity. She reached a sensational 101 off 53 deliveries, smashing nine fours and six sixes at a stunning strike rate of 190.56. Nicola Carey played an anchoring role at the other end, remaining unbeaten on 24 from 20 balls as the pair stabilised the innings through another valuable stand. Sophie Molineux then provided the late flourish, hammering 25 off 12 balls with two fours and two sixes to lift the scoring rate in the death overs.

West Indies bowlers had mixed fortunes. Hayley Matthews emerged as the standout performer with 3 wickets for 29 runs in her four overs, consistently breaking partnerships. Jahzara Claxton claimed two wickets but conceded runs at an economy of 12.33, while Zaida James picked up one scalp. Deandra Dottin also chipped in with a wicket despite an expensive spell, as Australia finished strongly at 211/7 in 20 overs.

Chasing under revised conditions after rain reduced the target to 102 runs in 10 overs, West Indies Women required an explosive start but lost Qiana Joseph early for a duck, bowled by Megan Schutt at 1/0 in just 0.2 overs. Captain Hayley Matthews attempted to counterattack, scoring 30 off 23 balls with two fours and a six, forming a rebuilding partnership with Eboni Brathwaite. The duo added stability, but Lucy Hamilton removed Brathwaite for 18 at 30/2 in 4.3 overs, shifting pressure back onto the hosts.

Jannillea Glasgow struggled to accelerate and was dismissed for 1 by Ellyse Perry at 33/3 in 5.4 overs, effectively halting the chase’s momentum. From there, the required rate climbed steeply despite Deandra Dottin remaining unbeaten on 11 off 14 deliveries. West Indies concluded at 61/3 in their 10 overs, falling well short as Australia’s bowlers maintained tight control.

Australia’s bowling unit shared the responsibility efficiently. Megan Schutt and Lucy Hamilton picked up a wicket each while conceding only 11 runs apiece in two overs, setting the tone early. Ellyse Perry delivered the most economical spell, claiming 1 wicket for just 1 run in her over. Supporting spells from Alana King, Georgia Wareham, Tahlia McGrath, and Georgia Voll ensured scoring opportunities remained limited throughout the chase.

With dominant partnerships, disciplined bowling contributions from multiple players, and strong finishing phases in both innings, Australia Women once again demonstrated why they remain one of the most formidable sides in women’s international cricket, completing a 3-0 series sweep.
