Australia’s star all-rounder Jess Jonassen ruled out of India tour due to hamstring injury

Australia Women’s Cricket team had a great start to their series against India after they beat the host by 9 Wickets on Friday evening. However, it is now understood that they have suffered a huge blow as veteran all-rounder Jess Jonassen is injured and ruled out of the rest of the series.

Jess Jonassen suffered a right hamstring injury during the 1st T20I against India on 9th December 2022.

Australian Women’s Team Physiotherapist, Kate Beerworth said: “Unfortunately Jess sustained a right hamstring strain while fielding during the match on Friday.

“She’s since been assessed and it’s evident that the timeframes required for a return during this series are too short. Jess will be unavailable for the remainder of the series and will return to Brisbane to continue her rehab.”

Leg-spinner Amanda-Jade Wellington earlier missed the ticket to India and has now been called as a replacement for the remaining tour. It is understood that Amanda-Jade Wellington will arrive in Mumbai on Tuesday and will most likely play the 4th and 5th T20I to be held at the Brabourne Stadium.

Jess Jonassen has been a huge asset for Australia, especially when playing against the rivals India – she has picked 18 wickets in 18 innings is only the 2nd best after Ellyse Perry’s 24 wickets. Jess Jonassen also has an extraordinary bowling figure in T20Is with 87 wickets to her name, 3rd best overall after Megan Schutt and Ellyse Perry.

It would be interesting to see how Amanda-Jade Wellington performs who has only played 8 T20Is for Australia but has an incredible number playing the Women’s Big bash league earlier this year.
