Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh by 3 Runs in a rain-affected encounter, confirms Semi-Final spot

The ongoing 8th edition of the Women’s T20 Asia Cup got underway on the 1st of October and below we brief you on the action from day 10, Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka face-off. The game witnessed the latter batting first get to a below-par total in a rain-affected game, but stepped up with the ball and went on to defend the revised equation in a thrilling finish.

Sri Lanka put in to bat first lost skipper Chamari Athapaththu early on the score of 1(5) and opener Harshitha Madavi then was partnered by Anushka Sanjeewani. The pair guided the team’s total of 23/1 at the end of the powerplay. Sri Lanka lost both set batters off successive balls as Harshitha’s start came to a close on 18(31) and Anushka’s on 8(13). Nilakshi de Silva was first partnered by Hasini Perera and then by Kavisha Dilhari and an 11-run contribution from the two gave the Lankan total a little push. Nilakshi de Silva and Oshadi Ranasinghe when were unbeaten on respective scores of 28(31) and 1(2), the rain intervened and the innings closed out.

Bangladesh with the ball had Rumana Ahmed with the best figures of 3-0-14-2 and the rest among wickets were Fahima Khatun, Shanjida Akter and Jahanara Alam with a wicket each to their name.

The revised target via the DLS method presented Bangladesh with 41 to get off 7 overs and the side in reply lost a couple of early wickets in Murshida Khatun on 1(4) and Fargana Hoque on 6(8) with 12 on board. Inoka Ranaweera bowling in the final over of the powerplay got an end to Rumana Ahmed and Nigar Sultana’s starts on respective scores of 8(9) and 12(11). That wasn’t it, Inoka continued and in the same struck again, this time Sobhana Mostary on 1(2) had to depart and finally with the run out of Fahima Khatun on 1(1), Bangladesh’s powerplay came to a close on the score of 30/6. With 11 required off the final over, Oshadi Ranasinghe defend the score by 3 runs and helped Sri Lanka confirm a berth for the Semi-Final.

Sri Lanka with the ball had Inoka Ranaweera register the best figures of 2-0-7-4 and Oshadi Ranasinghe too had a wicket against her name.
