The ongoing 8th edition of the Women’s T20 Asia Cup has marked its return after four years of absence. The tournament this time around is featuring 7 teams and has defending champions, Bangladesh, as the host. The tournament got underway on the 1st of October and below we brief you on all the action from the 5th day’s play.

Malaysia opting to bat first had openers, Winifred and Wan Julia, guide the team to a score of 33 at the end of the powerplay. Wan Julia’s defensive stay saw curtains in the 8th over with 40 on board as she walked back on 9(17) and Mas Elysa then partnered a set Winifred. The 31-run stand was again a defensive one that saw curtains with the wicket of Elysa on 14(27). A couple more wickets fell in quick succession as Winifred and Elsa departed on respective scores of 33(53) and 8(11). Ainna and Jamahidaya remained unbeaten on respective scores of 5(4) and 3(8) and pushed the side’s total to 88. UAE with the ball had all their bowlers on show deliver economical spells and the wickets list saw Chaya, Esha, Vaishnave and Indhuja with a wicket each to their name.

The United Arab Emirates in reply lost Esha Oza early on the score of 5(10) and it wasn’t long before Khushi was run-out on 1(4). A powering start from opener Theertha guided UAE to close out their powerplay with 30 on board. Skipper, Chaya was doing just enough on the other end to keep the scorecard ticking as Theertha continued and soon got to her half-century. Chaya walked back on 17(34) and Theertha alongside Kavisha finished the game for UAE on respective scores of 62(60) and 4(7) with 5 balls to spare. Malaysia had Sasha finish a brilliant spell with figures of 4-0-7-1 and Mahirah too had a wicket to her name. Aisya and Nur finished wicketless but registered economical spells with figures of 4-0-18-0 and 4-0-14-0 respectively.
