Lihara Abeysekara’s Five-Fer Powers Qatar Women U19 to 78-Run Win Over Hong Kong U19

Qatar Women U19 registered a comfortable 78-run victory over Hong Kong Women U19 in their ACC Women’s U19 Premier Cup 2026 Group D match at the Selangor Turf Club, Kuala Lumpur, on July 12, 2026.

A solid batting performance led by Kezia Paul and an outstanding bowling display from Lihara Abeysekara helped Qatar dominate the match from start to finish. After posting a competitive total, Qatar’s bowlers completely outplayed Hong Kong China to secure an impressive win.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Qatar Women U19 scored 116/9 in their 20 overs. Although they lost wickets regularly during the final overs, the strong opening partnership gave them the perfect platform.

Openers Kezia Paul and Fatima Mukadam added 87 runs for the first wicket, putting Hong Kong China under pressure from the beginning. The partnership became the backbone of Qatar’s innings and helped them build a competitive total.

Kezia Paul was the top scorer with a patient 54 off 54 balls, hitting five fours. She stayed at the crease for more than 16 overs and played an important role in holding the innings together. Fatima Mukadam supported her well with 29 from 34 deliveries, including two boundaries, before she was run out.

After the opening stand was broken, Qatar lost wickets quickly. Sargam Patel scored 3, Jaza Mariyam made 4, while captain and wicketkeeper Krisheta Sarvanakumar was dismissed without scoring. Maria Jacob added 7 runs, while Lihara Abeysekara, Devanandha Kavinisseri, and Pavithra Thamarai Selvam could not make significant contributions.

Despite the middle-order collapse, Qatar crossed the 100-run mark because of the excellent opening partnership. They were also helped by 17 extras, including nine wides, two no-balls, three byes, and three leg byes, finishing on 116/9.

For Hong Kong China Women U19, Arna Senthivel and Wong Wing Kiu Hailey picked up two wickets each, while Storm Emise Parker and Arooj Fatima claimed one wicket apiece. The Hong Kong fielders also produced three run-outs during the innings.

Chasing 117, Hong Kong China Women U19 struggled right from the start against Qatar’s disciplined bowling attack. Wickets fell regularly, and the batters never managed to build any meaningful partnerships.

Only So Wan Tung reached double figures with 10 runs, while Poon Hoi Lam scored 7. Captain Storm Emise Parkermanaged only 1 run, and the remaining batters failed to make an impact as Qatar’s bowlers kept complete control throughout the innings.

The star performer with the ball was Lihara Abeysekara, who delivered an outstanding spell of 5 wickets for 14 runs in four overs. She removed five Hong Kong batters and completely broke the batting line-up with her accurate bowling.

She received excellent support from Jaza Mariyam, who claimed 4 wickets for 7 runs in three overs. Maria Jacob also took one wicket as Qatar’s bowlers shared all ten wickets between them.

Hong Kong China Women U19 were eventually bowled out for just 38 runs in 12 overs, giving Qatar a comprehensive 78-run victory.

Following this result, Group D saw Nepal Women U19 finish with 4 points from 2 matches (2 wins, 0 losses) and a net run rate of +6.400. Qatar Women U19 finished with 2 points from 2 matches (1 win, 1 loss) and a net run rate of -0.675. Hong Kong China Women U19 also collected 2 points from 2 matches (1 win, 1 loss) with a net run rate of -1.685, while Singapore Women U19 finished with 0 points after 2 losses and a net run rate of -4.289.
