The squads of all ten teams participating in the ACC Women’s T20 Championship have been announced. The tournament starts from 17th June 2022 onwards and the Finals will be played on 25th June. The Malaysian Cricket Association has been given the responsibility to host the tournament.
The 10 teams are divided into 2 groups of 5 members each.
UAE, Malaysia, Oman, Qatar, Nepal, Hong Kong, Kuwait, Bahrain, Singapore, and Bhutan are the 10 Countries participating for the Final 2 spots who gets to rub shoulders against the Top Asian teams like India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka later this year.
Each team gets to play 4 matches in their respective group in a single round-robin fashion. The top 2 teams from each of the groups advance to the semi-finals to be played on 24th June 2022.
Asian Cricket Council’s president Jay Shah announced that the top two best-performing nations i.e the two finalists will be granted an entry to the ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup, where they will join India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Thailand, scheduled to be played later this year in Bangladesh.
“The last time the ACC Women’s T20 Championship was in 2013. The revival is long overdue, and this, I believe, will set the tone for us to move faster towards the development of women’s pathway programs in Asia. The development of women’s cricket programs is an integral component that must be pushed forward,” said Shah in a statement.
He added that “with this tournament, in addition to India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Thailand, two more countries will be awarded the opportunity to make it to the Asia Cup. This is a first in the history of the ACC Women’s T20 Championship, where, the top two qualifying teams will make it to the Women’s T20 Asia Cup.”

Women’s cricket has been on a resurgence after the introduction of the T20 format to the game, and this tournament provides a perfect platform for some of the lesser-known names to showcase their talent on a global stage.
