Essex Women’s seam bowler Sophie Munro has signed a two-year contract extension that will keep her at the Club until the end of the 2028 season. The 25-year-old joined Essex from The Blaze in 2025 and has since played 16 List A matches and 12 T20s for the side. The new agreement gives the Club continuity in its bowling group as Munro looks to build on her contributions. She said, “I am extremely excited to extend my stay with Essex.”

During her time with Essex, Munro has taken 12 wickets in the 50-over competition and 13 wickets in T20 cricket. One of her performances this season came against Northamptonshire in the Vitality County Cup quarter-final. She returned her best figures in the shorter format, taking 3-33 and helping Essex Women book their place at the County Cup Finals Day. Her spell made an important contribution in a knockout match and added to her work across the team’s competitions.
Munro also played in this year’s Hundred after joining Trent Rockets as an injury replacement. She was part of the squad that went on to lift the title. The experience added a trophy-winning campaign to her season, alongside her appearances for Essex in List A and T20 cricket. Her new deal means she will remain with Essex for two more seasons, with her contract running through the end of 2028.
Speaking about the extension, Munro said she had enjoyed her previous two seasons and was keen to keep improving under head coach Stephen Parry and the coaching staff. She also shared her hopes for the team’s future, saying, “I am very excited to see where our squad can get to in the next couple of years and hopefully, we will be competing for trophies.” She hopes to continue developing while helping Essex challenge for silverware in the coming seasons.
Essex Women’s Head Coach Stephen Parry welcomed the news and said he was pleased that Munro had committed to the Club. He praised her bowling ability and the impact she has made in important moments. Parry said, “She is an exciting cricketer to watch and is highly skilled with the ball. She has taken some important wickets at key moments when the team has needed them.” He also recognised that injuries had interrupted her progress over the past couple of seasons, although her ability was clear when she was fit.
Parry said, “I look forward to working with Sophie over the winter alongside my coaching staff to help her develop further and ensure she hits the ground running in 2027, which I know she is more than capable of doing.” He wants to support her progress through the winter and help her prepare for the next season. His comments underline the Club’s focus on helping Munro continue developing as she remains part of Essex’s plans.
Munro’s extension keeps her at Essex until the end of the 2028 season. Her record of 12 List A wickets and 13 T20 wickets, her 3-33 performance against Northamptonshire, and her involvement in Trent Rockets’ Hundred-winning squad give the Club contributions to build on. Essex will hope she can stay fit, continue improving with Parry and the coaching staff, and help the side compete for trophies in the seasons ahead.
