Medhavi Bidhuri: The Leg-Spinner Adding Spark to Central Delhi Queens’ Campaign

At just 20, Medhavi Bidhuri has already become one of the talking points of the 3rd edition of the Women’s Delhi Premier League 2026. Representing Central Delhi Queens under skipper Soni Yadav, the Delhi leg-spinner began the tournament with an impressive 4-0-24-2 against South Delhi Superstarz on August 20, even though her side suffered a 29-run defeat in the opening match and currently sits third on the points table.

Medhavi Bidhuri’s spell carried both control and attacking intent. She dismissed wicket-keeper batter Nishika Singh, who had made a composed 50 off 41 balls, before removing Tanishqa Singh for a five-ball duck. Nishika’s dismissal also produced one of the tournament’s most viral moments. In the 16th over, Arushi Goel completed a diving catch at mid-wicket, after which Bidhuri raised and lowered both hands in the now-popular ‘6-7’ celebration.

The gesture was more than a spontaneous expression of joy. Bidhuri had hoped to wear her usual No. 12 jersey, but that number was already occupied. Her younger sister suggested No. 67 instead, combining the number with the viral Gen Z and Gen Alpha trend. Bidhuri embraced the idea, and her celebration quickly transformed a wicket into an internet talking point.

Her impact in Delhi’s franchise tournament, however, began before this season. Bidhuri represented South Delhi Superstarz in the first two editions, taking four wickets in four innings at an economy rate of 6.85 across four matches in 2024. She followed that with five wickets at an economy of 6.92 in four innings and four matches during the 2025 edition.

The 2025 final remains the clearest example of her big-match temperament. Against Central Delhi Queens, Bidhuri produced a crucial 3/26 from three overs as South Delhi Superstarz defended 121 and secured the title by just one run. Her move to Central Delhi Queens has now added a fascinating layer to the competition, with the leg-spinner facing her former side while seeking to make a deeper mark in a new campaign.

Bidhuri’s early influence has also placed her in the wider Women’s Premier League (WPL) conversation. She was among the players registered for the WPL 2024 auction, an indication that her performances had already attracted attention beyond Delhi’s domestic circuit. Raised in the cricket-loving capital region, Bidhuri spent her formative years training at local academies and gradually progressed through competitive age-group cricket. She has represented Delhi at the Under-19, Under-23 and senior domestic levels, gaining experience against increasingly demanding opposition.

Coming from the historic Tughlakabad region of South Delhi, Bidhuri belongs to a Hindu family. Her father, Vikas Bidhuri Zaildar, is a respected figure from the Gurjar community, while the title “Zaildar” reflects the family’s historical roots in traditional community leadership.

As the Women’s Delhi Premier League continues from August 20 to September 2, Bidhuri offers Central Delhi Queens more than a wrist-spinner who can break partnerships. She brings control, big-match experience, a distinctive identity and the confidence to create moments that live well beyond the scorecard. The ‘6-7’ celebration may have made her famous online, but her bowling will determine how far she takes Central Delhi Queens this season.
