South Africa Women Announce Squad for First-Ever T20I Series Against Zimbabwe

South Africa have announced a 15-player squad for their historic white-ball tour of Zimbabwe, with the Proteas Women set to contest their first-ever five-match T20 International series against the hosts from 11 to 19 September 2026. All five matches will be played at Queen’s Sports Club in Bulawayo, in what promises to be an important moment for the growth of women’s cricket in the region.

Laura Wolvaardt will lead the South African side, which combines established international experience with three promising newcomers. The selection panel has rewarded the performances of Caitlin Wyngaard, former South Africa Under-19 star Nthabiseng Nini and off-spinner Luyanda Nzuza, who impressed during the recent SA Emerging Women’s tour against Bangladesh Emerging.

Wyngaard, 21, earns her maiden national call-up after making a strong impression for the SA Emerging Women. The Fidelity Titans seamer will be joined by Nini of the Warriors and Titans off-spinner Nzuza as the uncapped trio begins its journey at the senior international level. Their inclusion highlights South Africa’s emphasis on building depth while providing opportunities to players who have performed consistently in the domestic and emerging setup.

The squad also includes reigning Hollywoodbets Pro20 Player of the Year Faye Tunnicliffe, whose selection adds further interest to the tour. Anneke Bosch, Ayanda Hlubi, Eliz-Mari Marx, Seshnie Naidu, Nondumiso Shangase and Miané Smit are also included after missing the recent ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England. Their return gives the Proteas greater balance and strengthens the competition for places across the batting, bowling and all-round departments.

South Africa’s resources will be further reinforced by wicket-keeper batters Sinalo Jafta and Karabo Meso, along with all-rounders Kayla Reyneke and Annerie Dercksen. Together with Wolvaardt, the group offers the visitors a blend of leadership, versatility and T20 experience as they prepare for a demanding five-match assignment in Bulawayo.

The Proteas Women will begin their preparations with a pre-tour camp at Irene Cricket Club from 2 to 6 September. The team will then depart for Zimbabwe on Monday, 7 September, four days before the opening T20I.

For Zimbabwe, hosting South Africa across five consecutive T20Is represents a landmark occasion and a significant step in the development of the women’s game. For the Proteas, the series offers an opportunity to assess emerging talent, reintegrate experienced players and establish momentum in a new international rivalry.
