Nyasha Gwanzura’s 35 Guide Mega Market Mountaineers Women to 6-Wicket Win Over Rhinos

Mega Market Mountaineers Women produced a commanding chase at Bulawayo Athletic Club as they defeated Rhinos Women by six wickets in a one-sided Zimbabwe Women’s T20 Cup 2026 contest on August 18, 2026. The result was built around an aggressive batting display from Nyasha Gwanzura and Chipo Mugeri Tiripano, who ensured that Rhinos Women’s disciplined-looking total was never quite enough.

After Rhinos Women were asked to bat, their innings began with early pressure as Portia Chibwai was dismissed for a duck from eight balls, caught by Nyasha Gwanzura off Audrey Mazvishaya in the third over. Melinda Kachingwe then tried to steady the innings, but wickets continued to fall around her. Kelly Ndiraya managed only two from six balls before she was caught by Nyasha Gwanzura off Kudzai Chigora, leaving Rhinos Women struggling at 5/2 after 4.3 overs. Kay Ndiraya departed for a duck two balls later, also falling to Chigora, and the score had slipped to 5/3.

With the top order under pressure, Josephine Nkomo provided the first meaningful resistance alongside Kachingwe. The pair added 28 runs for the fourth wicket, giving Rhinos Women a much-needed platform. Kachingwe remained unbeaten on 23 from 46 balls, while Nkomo contributed a brisk 13 off 21 deliveries, including two fours. Their partnership helped Rhinos Women move through the difficult middle phase, although the scoring rate remained modest. Nkomo eventually fell at 33/4 in the 12th over, caught by Nyasha Gwanzura off Shanel Machado.

Francisca Chipare then joined Kachingwe and added 13 runs before a run-out involving Shanel Machado and Peligia Mujaji ended Chipare’s stay at 6 from 14 balls. Ashley Munatswa, the Rhinos Women captain, could add only one from four deliveries before she was caught by Passionate Munorwei off Kudzai Chigora at 49/6 after 15 overs. Tanvadziwa Chibaro then gave the innings a late lift, striking an unbeaten 15 from 19 balls with two fours. Alongside Kachingwe, Chibaro helped Rhinos Women finish their 20 overs on 76/6, with 16 extras — including 12 wides, two leg-byes and two byes — making a notable contribution to the final score.

Mega Market Mountaineers Women’s bowling attack had largely controlled the innings. Kudzai Chigora was the standout bowler, returning figures of 4-1-10-3 and producing crucial breakthroughs in the powerplay. Audrey Mazvishaya also impressed with 3-1-4-1, while Shanel Machado claimed one wicket from her four overs, conceding 12 runs. Nyasha Gwanzura bowled four overs for 21 without a wicket, while Monique Mushanyu returned 0/9 from one over and Passionate Munorwei finished with 0/16 from four overs. Despite the contributions from all six bowlers, Rhinos Women’s late resistance meant Mega Market Mountaineers Women had 77 runs to chase from 20 overs.

The response began in emphatic fashion. Chipo Mugeri Tiripano and Nyasha Gwanzura immediately put pressure on the Rhinos Women bowlers, combining for 36 runs for the opening wicket. Tiripano was particularly fluent, smashing four boundaries during her 18 off 16 balls. The partnership was finally broken at 36/1 in the fifth over when Francisca Chipare dismissed Tiripano. However, Gwanzura continued to dominate and found an ideal partner in Peligia Mujaji. Their second-wicket partnership added 26 runs and kept the chase comfortably ahead of the required rate. Gwanzura scored 35 from just 23 deliveries, striking seven fours and maintaining a remarkable strike rate of 152.17. Her innings ended at 62/2 in the eighth over when she was caught by Kay Ndiraya off Hillary Marodza.

Peligia Mujaji then continued the chase alongside Passionate Munorwei, adding 12 runs for the third wicket. Mujaji scored 12 from 17 balls with one four before she was run out at 74/3 in the 12th over, with Portia Chibwai and Melinda Kachingwe involved in the dismissal. Munorwei was then trapped lbw by Hillary Marodza for seven from 11 balls, leaving Mega Market Mountaineers Women at 75/4. With only two runs required, Precious Dzvifu joined Audrey Mazvishaya and calmly completed the chase. Dzvifu remained unbeaten on 0 from one ball, while Mazvishaya finished unbeaten on one from four deliveries as Mega Market Mountaineers Women reached 77/4 in just 12 overs, winning by six wickets.

Rhinos Women’s bowlers struggled to contain the scoring rate once the Mountaineers’ top order settled in. Francisca Chipare was the most economical of the four bowlers used, taking 1/13 from four overs. Hillary Marodza also made an impact with two wickets for 18 runs from three overs, dismissing Gwanzura and Munorwei. Kay Ndiraya bowled two tight overs for only three runs but went wicketless. Captain Ashley Munatswa endured a difficult spell, conceding 43 runs from three overs, with ten fours coming from her bowling and two wides adding to the damage.

Ultimately, the combination of Gwanzura’s explosive 35, Tiripano’s attacking start and Mujaji’s steady support gave Mega Market Mountaineers Women complete control of the chase. Their six-wicket victory, achieved with 48 balls to spare, highlights the difference between the two innings and makes this an important result in the Zimbabwe Women’s Domestic T20 campaign.
