Uganda Women produced a thrilling late comeback to defeat Hong Kong Women by two wickets in the eighth match of the Women’s T20 Quadrangular Series in Namibia 2026 at the Namibia Cricket Ground in Windhoek on July 25, 2026 (Saturday). Chasing 115, Uganda reached 115/8 in 17.4 overs, completing the chase with 14 balls remaining. The victory gave Uganda two valuable points and strengthened their position in the tournament.
After winning the toss, Uganda Women decided to field first and made an early breakthrough when captain Natasha Miles was dismissed for eight. Hong Kong then lost Shanzeen Shahzad for seven, leaving the team under pressure at 32/2. Mariko Hill tried to steady the innings and scored 37 from 42 balls, hitting one six, but her run-out in the 15th over created another setback for Hong Kong.
Kary Chan added 16 from 20 balls before she was bowled, while Marina Lamplough provided an important late boost with a quick 20 from only 12 deliveries. She struck three boundaries and helped Hong Kong move closer to a competitive total. However, her dismissal at 113 was followed by two more wickets in the final two balls, leaving Hong Kong on 114/7 after their 20 overs.
For Uganda, Irene Mutoni and Sarah Walaza were the most successful bowlers, taking two wickets each. Mutoni finished with 2/22 from four overs, while Walaza also claimed 2/22. Asumin Akurut took one wicket, and Uganda’s bowling attack did well enough to prevent Hong Kong from reaching a bigger total.
Uganda’s chase began badly when captain Janet Mbabazi was dismissed for just one run. Prosscovia Alako then made 14 from nine balls before being run out, while Stephani Nampiina scored 20 from 24 deliveries. With Uganda reaching 50/3, the chase was still in the balance.
Rita Musamali then contributed 22 from 26 balls before she was dismissed, while wicketkeeper Esther Iloku added 12 from 10 deliveries. Immaculate Nakisuuyi kept the chase moving with 19 from 15 balls, including three boundaries, but her dismissal at 104/6 again put Uganda under pressure.
The match became tense when Uganda slipped to 107/8 after losing Malisa Ariokot and Sarah Walaza in quick succession. However, Asumin Akurut showed excellent composure at the end. She remained unbeaten on 10 from just five balls, including a six, and helped Uganda cross the finish line at 115/8 in 17.4 overs. Concy Aweko stayed unbeaten without scoring, while Akurut’s calm finish completed a memorable two-wicket victory.
Hong Kong’s bowlers fought hard throughout the chase. Marina Lamplough was their best bowler with 2/20 from four overs, while Joyleen Kaur also took two wickets. Mahekdeep Kaur produced an excellent spell, taking 2/0 from one over, including a maiden, but Uganda’s lower order managed to handle the pressure.
Sarah Walaza was named Player of the Match for her all-round contribution to Uganda’s victory. The result moved Uganda to second place in the points table with six points from four matches, three wins and one loss, along with a Net Run Rate of +0.401. Namibia Women remain top with eight points from four wins and a strong NRR of +1.270. Hong Kong are third with two points from four matches, while Tanzania are fourth without a point after four defeats.
The result also gave Uganda confidence ahead of their remaining matches, while Hong Kong will need to improve their finishing after another close contest. With the tournament moving towards its final stage, the battle for second place remains open, while Namibia continues to lead the competition with a perfect record.
