Sri Lanka returns to international cricket after a positive campaign in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. They finished third in Group B, narrowly missing a place in the semi-finals after finishing behind the West Indies on net run rate. Even though they could not reach the knockout stage, the team produced several strong performances and showed good progress throughout the tournament.

The selectors have kept faith in the group of players who performed well during the World Cup. Most of the experienced players have been retained as Sri Lanka look to carry their good form into the 50-over format.

Captain Chamari Athapaththu will once again lead the team after another excellent World Cup campaign. She was one of Sri Lanka’s best performers and continued to show why she is one of the world’s leading all-rounders. Her best performance came against Ireland, where she scored an unbeaten 106 from 61 balls and also took 1 wicket for 23 runs, earning the Player of the Match award. Sri Lanka will once again depend on her experience and match-winning ability with both bat and ball.

Several other players who impressed during the World Cup have also kept their places. Nilakshika Silva enjoyed an excellent tournament with the bat and played several important innings for the team. Young opener Vishmi Gunaratnehas also been retained after continuing to perform well at the international level.

The batting unit also includes experienced players Hasini Perera and Harshitha Samarawickrama, while all-rounders Kaveesha Dilhari and Hansima Karunaratne provide balance by contributing with both bat and ball. Their all-round ability gives Sri Lanka more options during the series.

The bowling attack will once again be led by experienced left-arm spinner Inoka Ranaweera, who remains one of Sri Lanka’s most reliable bowlers in ODI cricket. Young spinner Dewmi Vihanga has also been retained after showing encouraging performances during the T20 World Cup. The squad is completed by Chethana Vimukthi, Nimasha Meepage, Imesha Dulani, Rashmika Sewwandi and Kawya Kavindi, giving Sri Lanka a good mix of experienced and young players.

One notable player missing from the squad is 19-year-old Mithali Ayodhya. The young fast bowler impressed many during the T20 World Cup with her unique sling bowling action and picked up four wickets during the tournament. However, she has not been included in the ODI squad for this series.

Sri Lanka currently sit third in the ICC Women’s Championship 2025-2029 standings, with eight points from six matches. A good performance against Pakistan would strengthen their position in the table and improve their chances of qualifying directly for the next ICC Women’s ODI World Cup.

The three-match ODI series will begin on July 23, with the second ODI scheduled for July 25 and the third and final match to be played on July 28. All three matches will be held in Hambantota, where Sri Lanka will look to make full use of home conditions and collect important championship points against Pakistan.
