After Somerset Women elected to field first, Hampshire Women began cautiously but positively. Openers Ella McCaughan and Maia Bouchier ensured there was no early panic despite disciplined bowling from Somerset’s attack. McCaughan looked fluent during her knock of 31 off 34 balls, striking four boundaries, while Bouchier played with controlled aggression. Their opening partnership added 72 runs in 10.4 overs, giving Hampshire a stable launchpad before Olivia Barnes removed McCaughan for the first breakthrough.

The innings continued to gather momentum through Maia Bouchier, who anchored the top order with a well-constructed 50 off 48 deliveries, including seven fours at a strike rate of 104.16. However, Somerset struck back when Bouchier departed at 123/2 in 19.6 overs, creating an opening for Hampshire’s middle order to rebuild. That responsibility was taken up brilliantly by Abi Norgrove, whose composed 35 from 48 balls, featuring six boundaries, helped maintain the run flow. Norgrove shared key partnerships that kept Hampshire in control before she was dismissed at 129/3 in 22.2 overs.

Somerset found another breakthrough through a sharp fielding effort when captain Georgia Adams was dismissed for 10 runs from 20 balls, leaving Hampshire at 152/4 after 27.1 overs. At that stage, the innings could have slowed down, but Hampshire found acceleration through an important middle-order stand. Rhianna Southby played an intelligent innings of 53 from 56 deliveries, striking five fours, while Francesca Sweet counterattacked effectively with a sparkling 57 off just 52 balls, including eight boundaries. Their partnership proved pivotal as Hampshire shifted gears in the latter stages and pushed Somerset onto the back foot.

Even after Southby fell at 250/5 in 42.1 overs, Hampshire maintained the pressure. Sweet’s aggressive intent carried the innings forward before she departed for 57 at 261/6 in 44.2 overs. Valuable finishing contributions came from Naomi Dattani (12* off 12), Amanda-Jade Wellington (18 off 14) and Poppy Tulloch (19* off 18), ensuring Hampshire closed strongly. The unbeaten late partnership between Wellington and Tulloch added vital runs in the death overs as Hampshire eventually posted a competitive 303/7 in 50 overs, crossing the 300-mark thanks to contributions spread throughout the batting order.

For Somerset Women, the bowling effort was shared across the attack even though containment proved difficult. Olivia Barnes emerged as the standout performer with 3 wickets for 54 runs in 9 overs, removing key batters including McCaughan, Francesca Sweet and Naomi Dattani. Chloe Skelton bowled economically, finishing with 1/47 in her full quota of 10 overs, while Lola Harris also picked up 2 wickets for 56 runs. Niamh Holland (1/62) and Alex Griffiths (0/43) chipped in, but Hampshire’s partnerships consistently prevented Somerset from taking complete control. Bea Willis endured a difficult spell, conceding 40 runs in just four overs.

Chasing 304 for victory, Somerset Women needed a solid beginning and received one through Rebecca Odgers and skipper Sophie Luff. The pair added 38 runs for the opening wicket, with Odgers playing confidently and Luff contributing 23 from 24 balls with three boundaries before Naomi Dattani struck to remove the captain in the eighth over. That breakthrough brought Anika Learoyd to the crease, and together with Odgers she produced Somerset’s best phase of the chase.

Odgers anchored the innings beautifully, compiling 77 from 92 balls, smashing 11 fours, while Learoyd matched her tempo brilliantly with an attacking 87 off 83 deliveries, including 10 fours and two sixes. Their outstanding 161-run partnership transformed Somerset’s chase and momentarily shifted momentum. With Somerset cruising at 199/3 in 33.1 overs, Hampshire suddenly faced real pressure.

However, Hampshire’s bowlers responded impressively during the decisive middle overs. Captain Georgia Adams broke the threatening stand by removing Learoyd, while Amanda-Jade Wellington’s leg-spin brought vital breakthroughs. Somerset slipped from 199/3 to 208/5, losing Jess Hazell (6) and Niamh Holland (2) in quick succession. Although Katie Jones (20) and Chloe Skelton (28*) attempted to revive hopes, Hampshire’s bowlers held their nerve.

The collapse intensified as Somerset lost wickets regularly in the closing overs. Alex Griffiths (1), Lola Harris (3) and Bea Willis (1) could not provide enough support to Skelton. A late run-out of Olivia Barnes capped off Somerset’s disappointing finish as they were bowled out for 264 in 46.3 overs, falling 39 runs short of the target.

Hampshire’s bowling unit shared responsibilities effectively. Naomi Dattani led the attack with 2/51 from 9 overs, while Amanda-Jade Wellington delivered a match-shaping spell of 3/52 in 10 overs. Bex Tyson (1/51), Hannah Hardwick (1/17), Georgia Adams (3/45) and Poppy Tulloch (1/43) all chipped in with timely wickets, ensuring Hampshire maintained control when Somerset threatened to take the game away.
