Meg Austin and Katie George Centuries Power Warwickshire Women to 20-Run Win Over Lancashire

Warwickshire Women produced a dominant batting display followed by a composed bowling effort to defeat Lancashire Women by 20 runs in the ECB Women’s One-Day Cup 2026 at Edgbaston Foundation Community Sports Ground, Birmingham. The match saw a thrilling contest between two competitive sides, with Warwickshire Women defending their imposing total of 314/7 after 50 overs as Lancashire Women fought hard but eventually finished on 294/9. The victory was built around outstanding centuries from Meg Austin and Katie George, while Lancashire’s chase was led by a brilliant hundred from Eve Jones.

Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Warwickshire Women began their innings cautiously as Lancashire’s bowlers looked to apply early pressure. Georgia Redmayne scored 16 runs from 30 balls before being dismissed by Cross, while Amu Surenkumar struggled to get going and fell for a six-ball duck, also to Cross. With Warwickshire reduced to 68/2, the hosts needed a strong partnership to rebuild their innings.

Meg Austin and Katie George then turned the momentum completely in Warwickshire Women’s favour with a match-defining partnership. The duo combined aggression with smart shot selection, putting Lancashire’s bowling attack under constant pressure. Austin played a sensational innings, scoring 116 runs from 137 deliveries, including 17 boundaries and a strike rate of 84.67.

At the other end, Katie George was even more attacking, smashing 127 runs from just 97 balls with 17 fours and three sixes at a strike rate of 130.92. Their massive partnership laid the foundation for Warwickshire’s commanding score before Austin was dismissed by Norris at 234/3 after completing a magnificent century. George continued the assault and guided Warwickshire towards a big finish before being run out by Norris for a brilliant 127.

After the departure of the two centurions, Lancashire managed to pick up wickets but Warwickshire maintained their scoring rate. Charis Pavely contributed 4 runs before being dismissed by Threlkeld off Potts, while Mary Taylor added valuable late runs with a quick 29 off 20 balls before Norris removed her. Alexa Stonehouse and the lower order pushed the total further, with Stonehouse scoring 1 and Hannah Baker remaining unbeaten on 1. Warwickshire eventually finished with 314/7 in their allotted 50 overs.

For Lancashire Women, Tara Norris was the most successful bowler, taking 2 wickets for 83 runs in her 10 overs. Kate Cross also claimed two important wickets, conceding 57 runs, while Grace Potts picked up one wicket for 67 runs. Hannah Jones impressed with economical figures of 1/32 from 10 overs, and Vinali Weerappuli finished with 1/69. Their efforts restricted Warwickshire from reaching an even bigger total but the target remained a challenging one.

Chasing 315, Lancashire Women started positively through Eve Jones and Emma Lamb. The opening pair added 114 runs before Lamb was dismissed by Davis for 40 off 53 balls. Jones carried the innings forward with a superb century, scoring 113 runs from 115 deliveries with 12 fours and two sixes. However, wickets at regular intervals prevented Lancashire from building the partnerships needed to complete the chase.

After Lamb’s dismissal, Katie Mack contributed 2 runs before being removed by Pavely, while Eleanor Threlkeld scored 3 before falling to the same bowler. Seren Smale added 22 runs from 24 balls before Pavely struck again, and Danielle Collins made 12 runs before Brett dismissed her. Jones eventually departed after a brilliant 113-run effort, with Lancashire needing a strong finish.

Kate Cross provided some late resistance with 25 runs from 24 balls, while Grace Potts added 34 off 26 deliveries, including four boundaries and a six, keeping Lancashire’s hopes alive. Hannah Jones scored 8, and Vinali Weerappuli remained unbeaten on 16 as Lancashire ended their innings at 294/9, falling 20 runs short.

Warwickshire’s bowlers played a crucial role in defending the total. Charis Pavely was the standout performer, claiming three wickets for 54 runs in 10 overs, including key breakthroughs during Lancashire’s middle-order collapse. Phoebe Brett picked up two wickets for 42 runs, while Alexa Stonehouse also impressed with figures of 1/51. Mary Taylor, Hannah Baker and Georgia Davis chipped in with one wicket each to ensure Lancashire could not complete the chase.
