Durham Women began their innings with a steady approach as openers Mia Rogers and Emma Marlow looked to provide a solid foundation. The opening stand was broken when Emma Marlow was dismissed for 8 off 16 balls, with Sophia Smale taking the wicket. Rogers continued to anchor the innings and added valuable runs before falling for 39 off 53 deliveries, including six boundaries. Her dismissal left Durham in a position where they needed a partnership to rebuild momentum.

Captain Hollie Armitage then took charge of the innings, combining effectively with Mady Villiers to push Durham towards a competitive total. The pair added an important partnership, with Armitage scoring a composed 69 off 78 balls and Villiers playing an aggressive innings of 76 off 70 deliveries. Villiers struck nine fours and two sixes, maintaining the scoring rate and putting pressure back on the Essex Women bowlers. Armitage’s leadership knock featured nine boundaries and provided stability in the middle overs.

Essex fought back through their bowling attack, with Sophia Smale, who finished with impressive figures of 10 overs, 1 maiden, 51 runs and four wickets, being the standout performer. Esmae MacGregor also contributed with 1 wicket for 56 runs in 10 overs, while Kate Coppack picked up one wicket after conceding 38 runs in seven overs. Eva Gray claimed one wicket for 57 runs, and Jodi Grewcock bowled economically with figures of 9 overs, 1 maiden, 36 runs and no wickets. Arianna Dowse tried to rebuild the innings with a positive 24 off 35 balls, hitting three boundaries, but Trudy Johnson removed her to leave Essex struggling.

Sophia Smale was unable to make an impact with the bat, falling for a duck, before Florence Miller and Joanne Gardner formed a much-needed partnership. Miller played a patient innings of 56 off 74 balls, while Gardner contributed 34 off 55 deliveries with four boundaries. Their partnership briefly revived Essex’s hopes, but Durham continued to strike at key moments.

Her aggressive counterattack kept Essex alive, but the required run rate continued to climb.
