Esha Oza’s Patient 42 and 2 Wickets Lead United Arab Emirates Women Past Malaysia by 52 Runs

United Arab Emirates Women delivered a dominant all-round performance to defeat Malaysia Women by 52 runs in the third quarter-final of the ACC Women’s Premier Cup 2026 at Bayuemas Oval, Kuala Lumpur. A commanding opening partnership, led by skipper Esha Oza and Theertha Satish, laid the platform for a competitive total before the UAE bowlers produced a disciplined effort to comfortably defend the target and secure a place in the semi-finals.

After winning the toss and opting to bat first, UAE Women made an ideal start through their experienced opening pair. Captain Esha Oza and wicketkeeper-batter Theertha Satish displayed excellent understanding at the crease, combining caution with aggression to frustrate the Malaysian bowling attack. The duo added a magnificent 70-run partnership for the first wicket, setting the tone for the innings. Oza looked particularly fluent, finding the boundaries regularly while rotating the strike effectively. Her innings of 42 from 39 deliveries included two fours and a six before she became the first batter to fall, bowled by Winifred Duraisingam in the 11th over with the score at 70/1.

The dismissal did little to slow the UAE momentum as Theertha Satish continued to anchor the innings superbly. She received brief support from Samaira Dharnidharka, who contributed 4 runs before falling to a catch by Nur Qalysha off Duraisingam. Their partnership added 8 runs for the second wicket, taking UAE to 78/2 after 12.3 overs.

From that point onward, Theertha took complete control of the innings. Joined by Heena Hotchandani, she accelerated through the final overs with intelligent stroke play and excellent running between the wickets. The pair remained unbeaten and stitched together a crucial 60-run partnership for the third wicket, ensuring UAE finished strongly. Satish remained unbeaten on a brilliant 65 from 53 balls, striking eight boundaries and maintaining a strike rate above 122.64. Hotchandani played an equally valuable supporting role with an unbeaten 19 from 21 deliveries, helping her side post 138/2 from their allotted 20 overs. Extras contributed another 8 runs to the total.

Malaysia’s bowlers struggled to contain the UAE batters, although Winifred Duraisingam stood out by claiming both wickets to fall. She finished with figures of 2/32 from four overs. Ainna Hamizah Hashim was the most economical bowler, conceding only 13 runs in her three overs. Nur Dania Syuhada gave away 22 runs from three overs, while Aisya Eleesa, Mahirah Izzati Ismail, and Dhanusri Muhunan remained wicketless despite their efforts. Dhanusri bowled the full quota and conceded 31 runs.

Chasing 139 for victory, Malaysia Women never managed to establish sustained momentum against a disciplined UAE bowling attack. The innings began poorly when Winifred Duraisingam was dismissed for a duck by Samaira Dharnidharka in the very first over, leaving Malaysia at 1/1. Ainna Hamizah Hashim and Nazatul Hidayah Husna Binti Razali attempted to rebuild, but UAE maintained pressure through tight bowling and sharp fielding.

The second wicket partnership added only 14 runs before Nazatul was dismissed by Dharnidharka for 1. Shortly afterward, Ainna Hamizah fell for 15 from 19 balls, caught by Theertha Satish off Esha Oza, reducing Malaysia to 21/3 in the sixth over. At this stage, the required run rate had already started climbing beyond control.

Captain Mas Elysa then tried to lead the recovery effort. Batting with determination, she compiled a patient 39 from 47 deliveries, including three boundaries. Alongside Mahirah Izzati Ismail, she added 6 runs for the fourth wicket before Mahirah was dismissed for 1 by Athige Silva. The most productive partnership of the innings came next as Mas Elysa and Dhanusri Muhunan put together 59 runs for the fifth wicket. Their stand provided some resistance and briefly kept Malaysia’s hopes alive.

Dhanusri contributed a fighting unbeaten 23 from 40 deliveries, while Mas Elysa continued to battle despite limited support from the other end. However, a crucial run-out ended Elysa’s innings on 39 in the 19th over, leaving Malaysia at 86/5 and effectively ending the chase, falling 52 runs short of the target.

The UAE bowling attack was outstanding throughout the innings. Samaira Dharnidharka set the tone with figures of 2/9 from four overs, removing both openers and applying immediate pressure. Player of the Match Esha Oza backed up her batting contribution with an excellent spell of 2/16 from four overs, dismissing key middle-order batters. Heena Hotchandani chipped in with 1/16 from three overs, while Vaishnave Mahesh bowled economically and conceded just 22 runs in her four-over spell. Katie Thompson also maintained control, finishing with 0/13 from four overs, while Athige Silva claimed an important wicket despite bowling only one over.
