Ritu Moni has been one of Bangladesh’s most experienced and versatile cricketers, serving as a seam-bowling all-rounder for over a decade. Growing up in Bogra, she was among several future Bangladesh internationals mentored by respected local coach Muslim Uddin, whose guidance played a crucial role in shaping her early cricketing development.

A product of Bangladesh’s pioneering generation of women cricketers, Moni rose through the domestic system and established herself as a dependable all-round option capable of contributing with both bat and ball. While she has often operated away from the spotlight, her versatility, experience and adaptability have made her an important part of Bangladesh’s setup across formats and tournaments.

Over the years, she has represented Bangladesh in multiple ICC events and was a member of the historic squad that won the 2018 Women’s Asia Cup, helping Bangladesh secure their first major international title. Her ability to fill various roles whether as a lower-order batter, medium-pacer or experienced squad member has allowed her to remain a valuable part of the national side through different phases of its development.

Ritu Moni’s International Career

Moni has featured prominently in Bangladesh’s white-ball teams, contributing across more than 140 international appearances. Although primarily selected for her all-round abilities, she has often delivered important performances in pressure situations, particularly with the ball.

One of the standout moments of her career came during the 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, when she produced career-best figures of 4 for 18 against New Zealand. At the time, it was the best bowling performance of the tournament and showcased her ability to perform against top opposition on the global stage. The spell carried added emotional significance as it came shortly after the passing of her childhood coach Muslim Uddin, to whom she dedicated the performance.

In T20Is, Moni has played 85 matches, scoring 510 runs and taking 36 wickets. Her bowling has been particularly effective in a supporting role, with an average of 22.75, an economy rate of 5.78, and best figures of 4 for 18. In ODIs, she has scored 641 runs and claimed 22 wickets in 57 matches.

As one of the senior figures in the squad, Moni provides Bangladesh with valuable experience and balance. Her ability to contribute in multiple disciplines has helped the team navigate challenging situations throughout her career. Her experience could prove especially valuable in English conditions. While Bangladesh’s attack is built largely around spin, Moni offers a genuine seam-bowling option capable of exploiting any movement available with the ball. Her ability to contribute useful lower-order runs, bowl in different phases of the innings and bring leadership to the dressing room gives Bangladesh additional flexibility.
