Warwickshire Women, batting first, struggled to establish complete control despite a flying start. The innings began aggressively as Meg Austin and Abigail Freeborn attempted to settle against a disciplined Somerset bowling attack. Freeborn struck three boundaries in her 16 off 9 balls before becoming the first wicket to fall at 34 in 3.1 overs. Austin continued to anchor one end and was joined by Georgia Redmayne during the powerplay.

The innings gained further momentum when Amu Surenkumar arrived at the crease. Austin top-scored for Warwickshire Women, scoring 41 runs from 29 balls with six boundaries at a strike rate of 141.37. Alongside Redmayne, she added a useful partnership that briefly shifted momentum. Redmayne was eventually dismissed for 30 from 23 deliveries at 98 in the 10.5 over, and Austin departed at 81/2 (8.5).

Surenkumar then combined with the middle order to keep the innings going in the middle overs. She contributed a steady 30 from 20 balls before she was dismissed at 127/5 in 14.4 over. No other batter managed to show any resistance, despite Mary Taylor, who chipped in with a handy 13-ball 15, helping Warwickshire post a challenging 166/9.

Somerset Women’s bowling effort was disciplined throughout the innings. Erin Vukusic led the attack with figures of 3/32 from four overs, while Niamh Holland also claimed 2 wickets for 23 runs. Olivia Barnes (1/30) and Chloe Skelton (1/35) also bagged a wicket each.

Chasing 166, Somerset Women approached the target confidently and immediately built momentum through strong partnerships. Rebecca Odgers and skipper Sophie Luff added 23 runs before Odgers departed for 14 off 9 deliveries in the 2.2 overs after an aggressive start featuring three boundaries. Phoebe Brett provided the breakthrough for Hampshire with a sharp spell during the powerplay.

From there, Sophie Luff and Anika Learoyd took complete control of the run chase in this women’s T20 fixture. Luff played a captain’s innings of exceptional quality, smashing 58 from only 33 deliveries with 11 boundaries at a strike rate nearing 176. Her partnership with Learoyd transformed the chase, combining controlled strokeplay with relentless boundary-hitting. The duo added 84 runs for the second wicket and pushed Somerset well ahead of the required rate.

Learoyd complemented Luff brilliantly with a composed unbeaten 60 from 49 balls. While Luff attacked aggressively, Learoyd anchored the innings and rotated strike effectively. Luff finally fell at 107 in the 15th over after Georgia Davis claimed the wicket, but the damage had already been done. Niamh Holland then joined Learoyd and kept the chase moving with a fluent 16 from 12 deliveries before becoming the third wicket at 142 in the 15.2 over.

Any remaining hopes for Hampshire disappeared as Learoyd and Alex Griffiths calmly completed the chase. Griffiths remained unbeaten on 8 from 8 balls, while Learoyd carried her bat superbly to guide Somerset Women to 167/3 in only 18.2 overs at a commanding run rate of 9.10.

Hampshire Women’s bowlers struggled to contain Somerset’s dominant batting lineup. Phoebe Brett was the most successful with 2 wickets for 31 runs, while Georgia Davis chipped in with one scalp. Millie Taylor bowled economically at stages despite going wicketless, but the rest of the attack found it difficult to slow Somerset’s aggressive scoring rate. Alexa Stonehouse, Mary Taylor, and Amanda-Jade Wellington all faced pressure from Somerset’s powerful middle-order partnerships.
