Captain Nat Sciver-Brunt will lead the charge at her seventh T20 World Cup, blending seasoned stars with fresh talent like 18-year-old uncapped Surrey spinner Tilly Corteen-Coleman, marking an exciting blend of experience and youth as they eye glory at venues like Edgbaston.

The squad announcement on 28th April 2026 (Tuesday) highlights Sciver-Brunt’s leadership alongside vice-captain Charlie Dean of Somerset. Powerhouses like Danni Wyatt-Hodge, gearing up for her eighth World Cup, Sophie Ecclestone, and Heather Knight bring over 960 T20I caps of collective experience. The pace attack spearheaded by Lauren Bell features first-time World Cup call-ups for Warwickshire’s Issy Wong and Durham’s Lauren Filer, promising firepower.

Head Coach Charlotte Edwards, who skippered England to their 2009 T20 World Cup triumph on home soil, emphasised the selection challenge. “This is the hardest set of selection meetings I have been a part of because the pool of players to choose from is so strong,” she said. “An ICC Women’s T20 World Cup on home soil is a special moment for the game in this country, and we are all really motivated by what could be ahead.”

Nat Sciver-Brunt echoed the excitement, drawing on England’s storied past. “It is a huge honour to be leading England into a T20 World Cup at home in front of family and friends and all our passionate supporters,” she noted. “I know how much winning in 2009 meant to the players and to Charlotte Edwards as captain, and being in the team under Heather Knight’s leadership for the 2017 ODI World Cup win was incredibly special. Now the aim is to do something similar with this fantastic group.”

This comes ahead of a packed white-ball schedule against New Zealand (skippered by Amelia Kerr) from May 10-25, including three ODIs and three T20Is, perfect preparation for the World Cup. The T20I squad mirrors the World Cup lineup, while the ODI series adds five players: Kira Chathli, Jodi Grewcock (both first caps), Em Arlott, Mahika Gaur, and Emma Lamb. Notably, Dunkley, Dean, and Wyatt-Hodge sit out ODIs for workload management, Wyatt-Hodge awaits her first child, while Sarah Glenn recovers from a finger injury.

Managing Director Clare Connor captured the optimism: “World Cups on home soil are extraordinarily special occasions. We believe they can go all the way and write the next chapter of England Women’s cricket.” With celebrities unveiling the squad in a special film, England’s campaign aims to thrust women’s cricket into the mainstream spotlight this summer.
