Lauren Bell Takes First Domestic List-A Five-Fer as Hampshire Beat Durham by Six Wickets

The clash between Durham Women and Hampshire Women unfolded as a one-sided yet intriguing contest in the ECB Women’s One Day Cup 2026, highlighted by disciplined bowling and a composed run chase. Opting to bat first, Durham Women looked to build a steady platform, but Hampshire’s bowlers ensured that momentum never truly settled in their favour.

The innings began cautiously, with Tahlia Wilson showing early promise. She crafted a patient 31 off 40 balls, striking five boundaries, but the opening partnership struggled to accelerate. Emma Marlow added 17 from 30 deliveries before both openers fell in relatively quick succession, Durham slipping to 47/1 and then 59/2. Hollie Armitage, the skipper, attempted to inject some urgency with a brisk 11 off 9 balls, but her stay was cut short by Naomi Dattani, leaving Durham in a slightly precarious position.

A brief rebuilding phase followed as Mady Villiers and Emily Windsor tried to stabilise the innings. Villiers contributed a steady 23 off 34 balls before being run out at 97/4, a moment that further dented Durham’s hopes of a late surge. Windsor, however, held one end firmly, finishing unbeaten on 21 off 56 balls, though the lack of partnerships around her meant Durham couldn’t accelerate effectively.

On the other end, wickets tumbled at regular intervals. Bess Heath (3), Phoebe Turner (1), Katherine Fraser (0), Sophia Turner (0), and Lauren Filer (0) all fell cheaply, reflecting Hampshire’s relentless bowling pressure. Katie Levick’s 3 off 12 balls was the final dismissal as Durham were bowled out for 118 in 36.1 overs, with the innings never quite finding rhythm.

Hampshire’s bowling unit was exceptional, led by Lauren Bell, who delivered a match-defining spell of 5 wickets for 22 runs in 8.1 overs, dismantling the middle and lower order with precision. She was well supported by Amanda-Jade Wellington, whose economical 2 for 18 in 10 overs choked the scoring rate. Naomi Dattani also claimed 2 wickets, while Linsey Smith, Bex Tyson, and Daisy Gibb maintained control, ensuring Durham’s batters were constantly under pressure.

Chasing a modest target of 119, Hampshire Women approached the innings with composure, though they did face early resistance. Ella McCaughan was dismissed for 11 at 55/1, but Maia Bouchier anchored the chase with a well-constructed 47 off 53 balls, including nine boundaries. Her partnership with Abi Norgrove proved crucial, as the duo guided Hampshire past the halfway mark of the chase with minimal fuss.

After Bouchier fell at 86/2, Freya Kemp added a quick 13 off 11 balls to keep the momentum going. Abi Norgrove remained unbeaten on 29 off 50 balls, ensuring stability, while the rest of the lineup chipped in where needed. Despite a couple of late wickets, Hampshire comfortably reached 121/4 in 24.3 overs, sealing a convincing six-wicket victory with 153 balls remaining.

Durham’s bowlers had limited opportunities to make an impact. Katherine Fraser was the pick of the attack with 2 wickets for 16 runs, while Lauren Filer and Mady Villiers chipped in with one wicket each. However, the low total meant they had little margin for error.
