Hat-tricks are considered one of the rarest and most exciting moments in cricket, with the momentum shifting entirely towards the bowling unit in a matter of just 3 deliveries. The New Zealand Women’s side has had a handful of such instances in One-Day internationals. The first ever instance came in 1993 when Julie Harris notched up a stunning hat-trick against the West Indies Women, and it was followed up by another sensational hat-trick by Emily Drumm against the Australian Women’s side in 1996. Amelia Kerr etched her name in the record book with a fine hat-trick against the Zimbabwe Women after nearly 3 decades in 2026, becoming just the third New Zealand Women to achieve this feat in ODIs.

The Women’s One-Day International played between the New Zealand Women and the West Indies Women as part of the 1993 ICC Women’s World Cup took place at the Civil Service Sports Ground at Chriswick. The West Indies Women had won the toss, and they elected to bat first. The West Indies Women looked vulnerable right from the start of the innings, and they simply couldn’t get going. Julie Harris picked up a brilliant hat-trick against the West Indies Women, and they were all out for a low score of 96. This was the first-ever instance of a hat-trick for the White Ferns in their cricketing history.
2) Emily Drumm vs Australia, 1996

The 2nd ODI between the New Zealand Women and the Australia Women was played at the Adelaide Oval, Adelaide. The Australian Women had walked out to bat first in the match, and they looked good initially with Rolton and Clark scoring half-centuries. Towards the end of the innings, Emily Drumm picked up an exceptional hat-trick, cleaning up the tail of the Australian batting unit, and they finished their innings at 164. This was the second instance of a hat-trick being taken by a New Zealand women’s bowler.
3) Amelia Kerr vs Zimbabwe, 2026

The 3rd ODI between the New Zealand Women and the Zimbabwe Women was played at the University Oval, Dunedin. The New Zealand skipper, Amelia Kerr, had won the toss and elected to bat first. The White Ferns put up a huge commanding total of 303 on board with top-class batting performances from Amelia Kerr and Maddy Green. In the 2nd innings, Zimbabwe was struck severely by scoreboard pressure as it was a mountain too high to climb for them. Amelia Kerr took her hat-trick in the 24th over, and the game was already somewhat over by then. This was the 3rd instance of a hat-trick being taken by a New Zealand women’s bowler.
