Alice Capsey, the 21-year-old English international, had been shortlisted for the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year award in 2022. During her first season of the tournament, she scored an excellent 59 that included 10 fours on her way to winning the tournament for her side. Capsey has had decent numbers in international matches for England as she has scored 741 T20I runs, including 4 half-centuries, and she has also picked up 6 wickets from the 45 matches that she has played so far.

She has also scored over 1,000 international runs in white ball cricket for England. She can construct innings at the top order with the kind of technical ability she possesses with the bat. Capsey has also earned a worldwide reputation for her performances in franchise cricket leagues such as the Women’s Big Bash League, The Hundred and the Women’s Premier League. In The Hundred to date, she has accumulated almost 800 runs, including six half-centuries for her previous side, Oval Invincibles, now MI London.

Phoenix Performance Director James Thomas said, “Alice is an outstanding talent and one of the most impactful young players in world cricket. Her ability to influence games at the top of the order, combined with her energy in the field and growing all-around skillset, makes her a fantastic addition to our squad. We’re thrilled to welcome her to Birmingham Phoenix and believe she’ll play a key role in our women’s campaign.”

The management knows exactly what to expect from players like Capsey, and this addition could do them a world of good, considering her ability to improve the flexibility of the side. She could also prove to be a fantastic option to keep in the long run, as she could also benefit from the experience of the senior players in the squad to improve her game awareness and shot selection in important matches.

“I’m really excited to be joining Birmingham Phoenix,” said Capsey. “The Hundred is such a brilliant competition to play in, and Edgbaston is an incredible venue with amazing supporters. Phoenix are building a great group of players and staff, and I’m looking forward to contributing, learning and hopefully helping the team push deep into the tournament.”
