Farokh Engineer made a controversial statement regarding CoA and Diana Edulji to which she responded. He had questioned the credentials of the committee and had stated that it was a waste of time.

At the Dilip Sardesai memorial lecture, Edulji responded to Engineer publicly. “I just heard Farokh saying Parsis don’t have a dirty bone in their body. I would like to know, you spoke a lot about the current selectors, in that statement you passed a snide remark about me. I would like to tell you, I played 30 Test matches too, so that is not little cricket I played. You said she (Edulji) has hardly played any cricket”, said Edulji as reported by Times Of India.

The former India Women cricketer has represented her country in 20 tests and 34 ODIs.

Later Edulji also added that the CoA was formed with a purpose. She highlighted the work done by the committee. She said that they tried to improve the standard of cricket and the infrastructure. The players have benefited from the work of CoA and it shows in the results of both men and women’s national teams.

Edulji feels that they could have done more. “I am glad that it’s now run by a cricketer. That’s what Justice (RM) Lodha (panel) wanted, to let the cricketers have a say. Let’s hope that they do well”, she added.

Farokh Engineer then retorted by saying that he always speaks his mind. “I speak my mind. I said something that the CoA was a waste of time and I meant that. I don’t think much came out of it (CoA) really and the money that was paid or spent — (in) crores — could have been better utilized in grassroots cricket in the country. There was nothing personal against you (Diana Edulji). About the selectors, I spoke earlier and there was a reason for that comment”, he said.

Former cricketer Farokh Engineer has played 46 test matches and 5 ODIs for India.
