Opening the batting after rain delayed the game, Governor-General’s XI Women got off to a steady start with Charli Knott and Rachel Trenaman putting together a 24-run opening partnership. The breakthrough came in the fourth over when fast bowler Bree Illing had Trenaman caught by Rosemary Mair for 10 runs off 10 balls, featuring two boundaries. Anika Learoyd then joined Knott to build a brisk 28-run second-wicket partnership. Knott struck six boundaries in her 20-ball 31 before being clean bowled by New Zealand captain Melie Kerr with the score at 52/2.

Learoyd carried through the rest of the innings with an unbeaten 29 off 21 balls, hit alongside three fours and a six, while captain Nicole Faltum added 7 not out off 9 balls. GGXI-W wrapped up their 10 overs at 77/2. For New Zealand, Melie Kerr was the most economical bowler with figures of 1/8 in two overs, Bree Illing picked up 1/21 in three overs, while Jess Kerr gave away 14 runs in two overs, Nensi Patel conceded 23 runs in two overs, and Rosemary Mair went for 11 runs in her single over.

Set a revised DLS target of 105 runs from 10 overs, New Zealand Women began their chase with Georgia Plimmer and Flora Devonshire adding 14 runs for the first wicket. Fast bowler Chloe Ainsworth made the first strike by removing Devonshire for 6 off 9 balls, caught behind by keeper Nicole Faltum. Melie Kerr came in next, stitching an 11-run stand with Plimmer before Hasrat Gill had Kerr caught by Charli Knott for 6 off 10 balls to reduce NZ-W to 25/2.

Lucy Finn then triggered a heavy collapse, starting by removing Plimmer for 17 off 17 balls, caught by Tayla Vlaeminck at 31/3. Finn immediately bowled Izzy Sharp for a two-ball duck and then bowled Jess Kerr for another two-ball duck in the same over. Chloe Ainsworth returned to bowl Polly Inglis for 4 off 2 balls, leaving New Zealand reeling at 37/6 in 7.2 overs. Maddy Green and Bella James staged an explosive, unbeaten 48-run seventh-wicket partnership, where James smashed 31 not out off just 13 balls with six fours at a strike rate of 238.46, and Green added 15 not out off 9 balls with a four and a six.

However, New Zealand finished at 85/6, falling short of their target. Lucy Finn led the bowling attack with outstanding figures of 3/5 in one over, supported by Chloe Ainsworth’s 2/10 in two overs and Hasrat Gill’s 1/6 in one over. Frankie Nicklin gave away 4 runs in one over, Filippa SueSee conceded 6 runs in one over, while Tayla Vlaeminck and Lucy Hamilton went for 25 and 29 runs in their respective two-over spells.
