Sophia Dunkley has quickly established herself as one of England’s most versatile batting talents, her ability to adapt to different roles making her indispensable across formats. Born in Lambeth, London, she was introduced to cricket by a neighbour, and soon began honing her skills at Middlesex and later with Surrey Stars. Her natural timing and calm temperament at the crease stood out as she rose swiftly through the domestic ranks.

At county level, Dunkley represented Middlesex from 2012 to 2019 before moving to Surrey in 2020. She has also been a key figure in franchise cricket, featuring for Southern Brave in the first two seasons of The Hundred before switching to Welsh Fire in 2023. Abroad, she has gained valuable experience in Australia with the Melbourne Stars in the Women’s Big Bash League and in India with Gujarat Giants in the Women’s Premier League.

Sophia Dunkley’s International Career

Her ODI debut came in June 2021, and she soon cemented her place in England’s middle order. In 40 matches, she has scored 981 runs, including a century and several vital contributions, with the best of 107. The year 2022 marked her most prolific phase to date, as she amassed 590 runs from 19 innings. Alongside her batting, her athleticism in the field and occasional leg-spin adds further depth to the side.

Dunkley’s maiden World Cup came in 2022, where she scored 291 runs across 8 innings, with the highest of 67. Her composure under pressure and ability to either anchor an innings or accelerate when required made her one of England’s most trusted batters during the campaign.
